Hi, I’ve been using Anki now for a couple of years now, with no issues. The last couple of weeks, I haven’t been able to sync neither my phone or desktop, always getting this error:
I have just tried all the step above w/o any success. When ever I try to sync my anki I am met with a network error (SC attached below) and I am unable to utilize anki as a result. I have tried to sync on both mac and windows, on hotspots, different wifi networks, and starting in safe mode/optimizing - and no dice. Any suggestions would be appreciated
I’ve received the above error message and my data won’t sync now on my Windows device. I’ve tried restarting my laptop, also installed to the latest version of ANKI. I’m getting the same error on my phone too. Not sure what next steps to take.
I don’t have an active antivirus on this computer currently so there is nothing I can whitelist. I have tried on multiple different internet services (hotspot, home wifi, wtc..)
I was unable to sync across three different devices and on different networks.
Crucially, making a new test account on ankiweb allowed me to sync, but my main account is still broken. Is it possible that my account was blocked for some reason? Thank you.
same problem here. I’m pretty sure it was working fine a few hours ago. I get it both from the windows desktop app connected via wifi, and from the android app connected via hotspot. Ankiweb.net is reachable from the browser just fine. Any address I can try to ping or some way to diagnose the possible connection issue?

A wave of these coming in all at once almost always means a regional server issue. If you’ve tried everything suggested, you might need to wait a bit and try syncing again.
And @JojoKim – I see nothing to indicate a problem with your AnkiWeb account.
Just wanted to add that I’m also receiving the same issue. Have been using Anki for multiple years now and have gotten this issue starting today. No issues in the past with firewall, antivirus or anything similar on Windows in the past. I am also getting the same error code on iPhone and iPad, as well as multiple different WiFi and cellular data connections.
Thanks for the info Danika. I’ll wait until tomorrow to try to sync. My sync button is also now red after trying to optimize cards - so i guess I need to do a “Full sync” based on my googling. is there a link to where I could find instructions on this?
I’m also seeing this issue across all devices. a discussion on the subreddit seems to suggest that it could be a certificate issue of some some sort? the existing troubleshooting steps didn’t seem to work for me
Optimizing parameters shouldn’t require a one-way sync – but I don’t know what you mean by optimizing cards. One-way syncs are explained in more detail here: Syncing with AnkiWeb - Anki Manual .

In this case the 404 error is the success case. That means your computer can see AnkiWeb, and something else is going wrong. Again, a wave of reports like this almost always resolves by itself.
For anyone who cannot wait to sync, you can manually copy your collection between devices for now – Collection Transfer - AnkiMobile Manual (should work whether you’re using AnkiMobile or not).
