Hi, I’ve been using Anki now for a couple of years now, with no issues. The last couple of weeks, I haven’t been able to sync neither my phone or desktop, always getting this error:
That generally just means your computer isn’t able to see AnkiWeb’s servers. That could be due to a regional internet outage, issues with your ISP/internet connection, or local issue with your device. I’m not sure what you’ve tried from the FAQ, but the usual suspects are antivirius/firewall/VPN/proxy. Error establishing a secure connection when syncing - Anki FAQs
The certificate error only started around 2 hours ago, and your report predates that, so something else is going on in your case. What happens when you sync with a different network/internet provider? Or a different device on your same network?
I tried syncing from my phone and desktop computer. Desktip with my home network and phone with home network and mobile data, and I always get the original url error in the computer and just “error sending request” on AnkiDroid. Checked steps on the Troubleshooting page but nothing seems to work.
@tmiguez I can’t see anything in the logs that indicate a problem on AnkiWeb’s end. What happens if you log out in the sync preferences, then log in again?
@jagortiz28 the server logs imply that your upload is being corrupted before it reaches AnkiWeb. It could be a flaky wifi card on your machine, antivirus/firewall/filtering software, a problem with your ISP, etc. Trying a different device and different network is a good first step.
First of all, I’m really grateful for your assistance, love what you guys do and this program has become a part of my routine the last couple of years ;D
I can login with no issue but still get the same error when syncing.
Please try increasing the connection timeout to 120 seconds in the sync settings, then sync once more. If you get another timeout, please search Google for ‘GMT time’, then report what the time is directly after you got the error.
I’ve got new info @dae ! Asked my sister to log in on my computer with her account, and she can sync with no issue, so that discards both a device and network issue I woud think.
Unfortunately I can’t still can’t see anything in the logs on the server end that would identify why you’re getting this message. When you sister tried on your computer, did she try doing so by creating a new profile? If you start Anki while holding down the shift key to disable all add-ons and automatic syncing, do you get the same error?
If so, the next step will be to turn on more debugging on the client side You’d need to open cmd.exe, run
SET RUST_LOG=debug
Then run anki-console. When you attempt to sync, there should be some debug lines printed to the screen. Please send them to me in a private message (they may contain info not appropriate for a public post).
