Media transfer goodnotes -anki no longer works

Until today, I was able to transfer images selected via the Lasso tool of the application " goodnotes" towards an anki card, on my iPad (anki version 11.24). This no longer works. Transfer via a screenshot of thé iPad still works, but this takes much more time. I have done an update of anki as well as of goodnotes, non success.
The files I try to transfer via the Lasso tool appear on anki in the check media section as missing files.
How can I fix this problem? Thank you!

Are you attempting to drag&drop? There’s been an issue reported with that which I’m looking into. If you can copy+paste in the mean time, that should work around the issue.

Indeed copy + paste works but drag and drop still doesn’t work. The files I try to transfer with drag and drop appear on anki in the check media section as missing files, whose name contrains ‘blob’. Until now such files contained the word ‘paste’, and there was a PNG extension. this is no longer present.
Thank you!

That matches the issue we’ve been seeing that Damien is already looking at. Thanks! :+1:t4:

I am always grateful for your help, but when I take a screenshot from goodnote5 and use the lasso tool on ANKI, the image gets stretched and I can’t use it properly. I am sure that many people are having trouble with this issue, so please improve it as soon as possible. By the way, this kind of bug occurred after this update.

Thank you for reporting this. You’re right that you’re not the only one having the issue, so I’ve merged your posts here.

Hello,

I’ve encountered an issue with the Anki app on my iPhone after updating to the latest iOS version. Until recently, I was able to drag and drop images directly from Safari into cards in the Anki app without any problems. However, now when I attempt to drag and drop an image, it only shows a “?” icon instead of the actual image.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Safari and find an image.
2. Drag the image from Safari into a card in the Anki app.
3. The dropped content appears as a “?” icon instead of the image.

Attempts to Resolve:
• Restarted the iPhone.
• Reinstalled the Anki app.
• Updated to the latest Anki version.

Images can still be added if saved to the Photos app and manually inserted via the “Add Image” button, but this workaround is far less convenient than the drag-and-drop method I was using before.

Device Details:
• iPhone model: iPhone 15 Pro Max
• iOS version: 18.1.1
• Anki app version: 24.11

I suspect this issue might be related to a change in how iOS handles clipboard data or image formats. Has anyone else encountered this issue? If there is a workaround or planned fix, I’d greatly appreciate your advice.

Thank you!

It’s not just you! Hopefully copy/paste will tide you over while the dev is looking into a fix.

Hello! I know it’s a common problem, but has anyone found a solution for it? I can’t drag and drop notes from GoodNotes to Anki anymore, even though it worked fine a few days ago. Now, when I try to drag and drop a note, it looks like nothing is there. I really don’t want to use copy and paste because it’s very time-consuming.

Moved your post here – where we’re tracking the issue.

The iOS update broke the existing drag&drop functionality, and I’m still trying to figure out a way to get it working again. Please hold tight.

I’m a heavy Anki user, and like many others, I consider it an essential part of my daily life—a partner that supports my growth.

It’s been almost fifty days since this error first appeared in early December, and I’ve been hoping each day that it would be resolved. If you could let us know when we might expect a fix or provide an update on the situation, I’m sure it would put many users at ease. Thank you so much for your understanding and kind support.

I was able to figure out a workaround about a week ago, and an update is currently in beta testing. If you’d like to give it a try, please see Beta Testing - AnkiMobile Manual

Great to here! Do you know when this update will be fully released so drag-and-drop can work again?

We don’t have a precise date for that, but it’s likely to be later this month. [Not a guarantee!] You’re welcome to join the beta program though – follow the instructions at the link above.

Hi @fighteryk @amelkamelka123
I know this isn’t exactly what you’re looking for considering your existing well-set flows, but I’ve been troubled a lot by this last-mile issue between GoodNotes and Anki. Goodnotes is an amazing handwritten notes app, and Anki is amazing at what it does. I didn’t want to mix the two.

So I built a tool called NotesAnkify where I can just create a flashcard page(using the existing template) within my Goodnotes book, and then run NotesAnkify on it. This will extract all these specific flashcard pages and push it to Anki. Has a hashing mechanism with a unique id to prevent duplicate notes and also has multiple processing modes for different situations.
Here’s a reddit post with all the details: reddit[dot]com/r/GoodNotes/comments/1ik3rpj/notesankify_goodnotes_to_anki_flashcards/

Its free. Do check it out and see if it helps: notesankify[dot]com
