Today, that seems to be!
A few users in Argentina have been having issues syncing. One on Reddit found that a VPN would get around it. Another gave up trying things and created a different account.
Try to fix your connection
-
It sounds like you’ve tried many of the things from the FAQs already – Syncing failed: Connection timed out errors when syncing - Anki FAQs and Error establishing a secure connection when syncing - Anki FAQs . Anybody else who thinks they are having this issue should start with those.
-
You can also visit https://sync3.ankiweb.net/abc in your browser. If you see a 404 error, that means your computer can see AnkiWeb servers.
Other potential cause
A few days ago, some servers were impacted by a certificate expiration – Sync error: error sending request for url () - #35 by dae – but that was resolved. The reason only some accounts were impacted is that different accounts are on different servers, and since 2 of your have found that a newly created account is able to sync, that comes to mind. It’s possible there’s another server that didn’t get the fix, or something else hasn’t propagated worldwide yet.

Fastest solutions
1. Switch to a new AnkiWeb account.
-
If you sync multiple devices and they aren’t currently in sync – remember that the first sync will be a one-way sync, so take care to preserve your out-of-sync collection so you can merge it after that. Syncing with AnkiWeb - Anki Manual
-
If you want to use the same email address, you need to change your current account to a different email address first to free that up.
-
[I’d encourage you to run Check Media and clean up your unused media on your local device before syncing to the new account.]
-
If that works, and you’re happy with the new account, you can remove the old account on its AnkiWeb account page. You should check all of your devices to make sure they are syncing to the new account, and clear any browser cookies/passwords for the old account.
2. Use/stop using a VPN. I don’t have any specific advice to give you about that, but it seems to work in some cases – indicating it’s an internet routing issue more than an account/server issue.
