My main AnkiWeb account is unable to complete a collection sync on both Anki Desktop and AnkiMobile.
The current error message is:
- AnkiWeb encountered a problem. Please try again in a few minutes.
Anki Desktop has also reported:
- A network error occurred.
- Error details: error sending request for url ()
Environment
- Anki Desktop 26.8.1 on macOS
- AnkiMobile on iPhone
- The problem occurs on both devices with the same AnkiWeb account
- A different AnkiWeb account syncs successfully on the same Mac and network
Troubleshooting already attempted
- Logged out of AnkiWeb and logged back in on both devices
- Increased Anki Desktop’s network timeout from 30 to 120 seconds
- Started Anki Desktop in safe mode with all add-ons disabled
- Tested using a separate Anki profile/account
- Confirmed that the assigned sync server is reachable in a web browser
- Waited and retried the sync on both desktop and iPhone
The affected account appears to be assigned to sync21. ankiweb. net. Opening a test path on that host returns the expected 404 response, so DNS, TLS, and basic connectivity to the server appear to work.
Media sync reports “Media sync complete,” but the collection sync still fails. The collection remains available and usable locally. I have not performed a forced one-way upload or download.
Because another account works on the same computer and network, and the affected account fails on two different devices, this appears to be specific to the account or its server-side collection state rather than a general network or add-on issue.
Could someone from the AnkiWeb team please check whether this account or its assigned sync server has a server-side problem?
Thanks! Long time user and first ever error that is so persistent. I’ve been trying all sorts to fix this and have gotten nowhere!
