Unable to sync anki deck due to expired email

Hello!

The email account I initially used to sign up for Anki no longer exists (it was affiliated with a prior institution, who deleted my email account after graduating).

As such, I am unable re-verify my anki account and therefore unable to sync all my progress. Is there a workaround to this problem? I had also forgotten my account password and cannot recover due to aforementioned deleted email.

Thanks!

If you can’t use the email address and don’t know your password, then no, I don’t think there’s any way for you to reactivate that account and continue using it.

It sounds like you’ve got your up-to-date collection on your device though, so you can set up a new AnkiWeb account with a more stable email address and use that for syncing. Before you sync with the new account –

  1. Since you’ll be starting from scratch, it’s a great time to clean up your collection locally – Check Database, Check Media to delete unused media, export and delete inactive decks, etc. That will save you time when you get syncing set up.

  2. If you’re using more than one device and they are now out of sync, make sure you preserve your data so that you can merge your collections. Syncing with AnkiWeb - Anki Manual

[If you can delete the old account, I’m the AnkiWeb’s servers would thank you for freeing up the space – but I’m not sure you can delete it without reverifying.]
