On my Mac version of Anki, the information in the Extra field of my AnKing Overhaul cards has moved into the Back Extra field. This happened randomly to all the cards I made but the AnKing cards themselves were fine. I didn’t try to change the notes before this happened or add any add-ons. I tried manually switching the note type for all the ones the issue occurred for by switching the Extra field to Back Extra. This worked temporarily but then reopening my app, they all switched back. Basically, all the notes I changed look like they haven’t been changed. When I answer a card, nothing shows for the back of the card.
I just noticed now that all the information (notes, Sketchy images, etc.) are all missing from my AnKing cards.
Are you using AnkiHub to automatically update your notes/decks/note types? That sounds like you have something not “protected” correctly, or a note type is getting updated. The AnkiHub support community is the best place to search for advice about that. https://community.ankihub.net/
Did you import a deck, or update your deck or note types in some other way (e.g., with another add-on that you already had – since you mention you didn’t “add” any add-ons in between)?
Did you specify Mac (a) because it’s only happening on Mac – and it’s fine on your other apps/devices, or (b) because you only use Mac?
Are you certain that your notes and the AnKing notes are using the same note type – not just note types with similar names? [Notes and cards aren’t the same thing.]
Does this mean you modified the field names in the note type? Or that you used change note type to change the notes to the same type, just remapping the fields?
Do you sync with AnkiWeb? Do you have good syncing habits – which means syncing when you open the app on a device AND when you close/leave the app on that device, every time?
I didn’t update the note type that I use to make decks. I use AnKing Overhaul (AnKing Step Deck/AnKing Med). I have imported many decks for a while but this has never happened before. The decks I import are also AnKing Overhaul.
I specified because I only use Mac. I only have Anki on my MacBook.
Yes, when I look at “Change Note Type” the ones that are affected are AnKing Overhaul (AnKing Step Deck/AnKing Med). The problem has worsened though. Now, all the sections of the AnKing deck are gone besides Text and on the cards I made are gone (there is nothing on Back Extra now). The AnKing deck cards that are unaffected are AnKing Overhaul (AnKing Step Deck/AnKing Med)+ but all the notes that are AnKing Overhaul (AnKing Step Deck/AnKing Med) are affected. Also, when I import a new deck it’s normal (I can see the information in Extra), but the next day, when it comes up as a review card, it’s gone. If I reimport a deck I already have the missing Extra information or other fields does not transfer over.
I think the second. I selected the cards and clicked on “Change Note Type”. For the “Current” dropdown for Extra, I changed to Back Extra, but when I look now, the changes didn’t stay.
If you imported a deck with another copy of the note type, what import options did you choose? It sounds like that import process might have overwritten your modified version of the note type.
Those are 2 separate note types, so regardless of having almost the same name, changes to one wouldn’t affect the other.
That sounds like you’ve got an add-on that is updating/reverting your note type in the background. The issues you’re describing aren’t things that Anki has the capability to do on its own.
