Hi everyone, I have an issue that I’ve been dealing with for a few weeks now and it’s really starting to bug me.
Currently using Anki24.11 and the mobile app on my phone to study cards. Recently, I tried using filtered decks sorted by tags. Basically, I do uworld questions and tag them based on the rotation that I am currently on (IM, OB, PEDS, etc) for third year in medical school. But every day I end up with anywhere from 50 to 450 cards in my default deck (basically outside my filtered decks) that are cards I have open and originally tagged for a filtered deck. When I go view those cards they have lost the tags that I originally added to them.
Based on my searches, many people are saying it’s due to add-ons that I might have activated. Has anyone else had this issue before and resolved it? If so, were there specific add-ons that you suspended? I’m getting really annoyed having to start every morning re-tagging cards, and I would really like to not move cards into separate decks mostly because I feel like anki should be smarter than this. lol. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Anki is not in the habit of removing tags that you have applied to notes, so this sounds like it’s probably a sync conflict, or an add-on making updates in the background, like you said.
How are you syncing your collection between your devices? [I can see the AnkiWeb account for your email address through our support access, and it hasn’t been used in some time. If you’re using a different AnkiWeb account, please send your email address to @ moderators by private message.]
Want to give us a hint as to which add-ons you suspect are involved? If you’re not yet able to post active links to the add-on pages or those posts you’ve found – ` you can put them between backticks.`
heres a screenshot of current add-ons I have activated… not sure if this is helpful
And I sync my account a few times daily so not sure if youre looking at the right email I have for anki-hub, this is probably a dumb question but where am I sending my email too? on here or on ankihub?
AnkiWeb is the website version of the Anki program – https://ankiweb.net/ . It has a basic studying interface, but it is mainly used to sync your collection (including your notes, cards, media, and review history) between your Anki, AnkiMobile, and AnkiDroid devices.
AnkiHub is a 3rd-party service run by AnKing that allows collaboration on decks. Through their add-on, they can send you updates that others have made to your notes, cards, and media – but not your review history – between their servers and this device.
Those syncs may happen at the same time, but they are very different things.
The only email address I can see is the one you used to create your Anki Forums account, and I can only compare it to accounts on AnkiWeb. [I don’t know what email address you use for AnkiHub or anything about your account with them.] If you want to know what AnkiWeb account you’re syncing you collection with, look at Preferences > Syncing on each of your devices. Preferences - Anki Manual
All of that said – I was concerned if something was going wrong in your AnkiWeb syncing. But now that we see you’re using AnkiHub, it seems much more likely that the issue is what @chrislg spotted: you’re getting updates from them for decks you’re subscribed to, and that’s overwriting your own data. You should look at AnkiHub support (https://community.ankihub.net/docs) about what you can do to protect your own data from changes.
