Deck lost after downloading Anking MCAT from AnkiHub

Hello. I’m newer to Anki and am using it to study for MCAT on my Windows laptop. I have 2 concerns. 1. It seems like I’ve lost cards to that pre-made deck so I’m really worried I’ll have to start over but my MCAT is in a couple of months. 2. I also just noticed today the MrPankow deck I’ve been using to study psych/soc shows I have about 1300 cards when I thought online its meant to have around 2000 cards.

I’m not exactly sure what happened but am providing as much context on what I did today in Anki b/c I noticed this today.

I subscribed and downloaded a couple Anking decks (specifically the MCAT/Step 1 decks). I logged into Ankihub via 3rd party services under Anki’s preferences.

At some point, I was trying to sync my Anki and it gave some long message giving options saying something like “upload” or “download” to AnkiWeb. I pressed download.

It did take some time to sync as I made sure to sync multiple times since I always do b/c I use Anki mobile too.

Again, one of the MCAT decks (specifically Milesdown organized by Coffin) I use had all cards due for today disappear and I haven’t even reviewed them yet. Only two cards were visible under “browse” for the Milesdown deck.

The other MCAT deck I reviewed earlier this morning (named '“MCAT” w/ a blue heart) still had its cards under “browse.” See the screenshots below.

*when I opened “browse” for the Milesdown deck.

*i also noticed the number of cards I have for my p/s MrPankow deck today, it should be closer to 2000 cards so I don’t want to miss any info studying for my MCAT in 2 months.

*all decks show 0 but when I open them in browse, I still see them thankfully but they’re just highlighted yellow. The deck named Milesdown

Please let me know if you need me to show anything else, I just want my Milesdown cards/progress back. I’m worried about this happening again b/c I have to unsubscribe from AnkiHub soon. Thank you, any clarification is appreciated.

I’m following up because I’ve really been struggling with this for the past several hours today and yesterday. I’m already very stressed about my MCAT. Any clarification from moderators/users would be appreciated.

Idk why something happens to my Milesdown deck organized by Coffin every time I downloaded Anking MCAT from AnkiHub. As far as I know, I can’t export anything now because I already did export the milesdown deck when it appeared on my laptop this morning since it was still on my phone apparently (but without Anking) so i redownloaded Anking after syncing all devices and exporting decks including the Milesdown deck I’m using to study my MCAT right now.

It did not export my Milesdown cards like I thought once I redownloaded Anking (and logged out of AnkiHub to stop syncing with it/recieving updates bc I don’t need them) and now I’m stuck with mising progress that I’ve built over weeks on my Milesdown deck across hundreds of cards.

I’m trying my best, I’m not sure what went wrong but the only option I see right now is deleting the messed up Milesdown deck b/c whenever I try downloading it again from the internet, it shows no cards (I’ve already restarted Anki too). Thus, deleting and redownloading is my last option.

Please just let me know if there’s a way I can get my progress on the Milesdown deck again WHILE keeping my Anking MCAT deck needed to go w/ a UWorld add-on. Overall, it hasnt seemed to affect my other decks. Thank you.

PS: I just checked my other MCAT deck I’m using for psych/soc (MrPankow) and it reduced my cards under browse from about 2000 to 1300 again.

I ultimately just want my to keep the progress I’ve made in my Milesdown and MrPankow deck while keeping the MCAT Anking deck (which should no longer be recieving syncs/updates since I logged out of AnkiHub via Anki’s 3rd party services.

It sounds like you didn’t read that message carefully. If I understand you correctly, you updated your collection on desktop by importing these new decks. Then you were forced to do a one-way sync, and you downloaded the older version of your collection from AnkiWeb, which overwrote the updated collection on your computer.

The quickest fix to that is restoring from an automatic backup made just before you mis-synced. Restoring an Automatic Backup (Recovering from Data Loss) - Anki FAQs

We can’t answer questions about specific decks, but a common problem I’ve noted with MCAT-studiers is importing alternate versions of decks they already have. Is that possible here?

When you import duplicate notes, Anki recognizes that you already have them and doesn’t make duplicate cards from them. The post-import report would have told you what notes were skipped and why. You should search for the material you think you’re missing and see if it already exists in another deck.

The counters on the Decks list only show you the cards that are slated to be studied today (up to your daily limits) and available (not suspended, not buried) – not every card that exists in your collection.

That yellow highlighting means the cards are suspended, so they won’t be offered during a study session. Browsing - Anki Manual

For these deck-specific, relationship between decks, and AnkiHub questions, you’ll need to talk to the deck authors or other experts in how those decks are related or merged during an AnkiHub sync (see https://community.ankihub.net/ ).
