I’ve tried everything, turning off WiFi, checking backups, accessing auto saves, etc. but nothing works.
I’ve lost nearly 2000 cards because i accidentally deleted anki, reinstalled it and lost all of my cards, it reverted to a file saved at the 13th, even though I lost it all today.
Can a support staff or developer please revert this change, or send me all the data of what was deleted. Please I need it desperately.
This all happened on ankidroid on my chromebook. There is no hope, please help me.
I had a deck called Macbeth, a deck called Computer Science OCR GCSE, i had a deck called Error Revision, with subdecks embedded in it. I had a deck called German Words of the Week or something with subdecks week 1, etc.
When you deleted AnkiDroid, you were given the option to keep your app data. If you didn’t do that, it’s gone from your device. However, you had your collection synced to AnkiWeb. So when you reinstall, and set up AnkiWeb syncing, you need to select “Keep AnkiWeb” to download your collection from the server.
If you didn’t get the option to keep your app data when you deleted – did you have a very old version of AnkiDroid? Older versions didn’t give that option because they didn’t delete your collection, so your collection would still be on your device and there may be ways to recover it from there.
Have you set up syncing? If so, you were given the option of which collection to “keep” – the one on your device (which is empty), or the one on AnkiWeb (which is your most recently synced collection). I can see that your AnkiWeb collection [for the account connected to the email address you used to post here] is not empty, so I know you didn’t upload an empty collection and overwrite it.
If you downloaded your collection from AnkiWeb, and it is out-of-date – was that the last time you synced with AnkiWeb?
Apparently, the last time was the 13th, but that shouldn’t have been true at all. Now its started to resync to today’s date. There’s not much i can do, it reverted to a backup far before today. So i no longer have them. I did accidentally click keep from ankidroid though, so i completely understand why it may have disappeared. Regardless if there is anything you can do, i’m ready to comply. Otherwise, don’t worry.
Could you perhaps explain how to properly sync and store decks so that they aren’t lost in future and auto sync?
I don’t understand what backup you mean? If you deleted your collection data from your device, that includes the local backups you had there. And your collection on AnkiWeb would have been current with the last time you synced.
That clarifies some of this at least. [And would have saved us some work if you had said that from the start.] But wasn’t your collection on AnkiDroid empty when you set up syncing? Or did you start creating/importing on AnkiDroid and then set up syncing to get your AnkiWeb collection?
Okay for clarification, I don’t fully understand the saving or sync feature of ankidroid to ankiweb.
Firstly, i have always pressed “sync to ankidroid”, whenever the popup shows up upon booting up the app.
Today, when I accidentally deleted the app, I downloaded the ankidroid app again from the app store. After this, I clicked, “sync to ankidroid” and to my horror nearly nothing of my prior deckes remained, only the decks i had made nearly 2 weeks ago. Now I believe that the automatic sync feature I enabled had been faulty, although every time the pop up was displayed i clicked “ankidroid” and i continue to do so. I didn’t download any backups directly to my chromebook.
To understand, I made all of my cards for different subjects on this chromebook and have never truly used ankiweb. I didn’t specifically delete ANY data, rather, it is untraceable from my side.
I have tried extensively to find a sync from today, before app deletion but have been unsuccessful.
If this still hasn’t answered your question, please try to explain to me in simpler terms, what it is exactly you mean. Apologies for any frustration.
