Make a copy of the “deleted.txt” file somewhere and look for the latest date in the “backups” directory.
Logically, you should always sync with your computer, and it shouldn’t be the case that you only have a deck on the web and not in other places.
Perhaps an admin will show up and check what’s on the web… since I think it should only contain items marked for deletion and some other stuff.
And “backups” doesn’t contain all the media files. You should manually make copies of the collection and save them to your own drive, or you can even save a copy to a network drive somewhere.
Did you do a one-way sync from your PC select upload to AnkiWeb, which overwrote the collection that you already had on AnkiWeb? It’s important that I understand exactly where you had parts of your collection and exactly what step went wrong.
I can see the AnkiWeb account associated with the email you use to post here, and it only shows syncing with a Windows PC, it’s never synced with an iPad. Do you have multiple AnkiWeb accounts?
Yes, I transferred from the pc to the iPad a deck and a deck on the web disappeared
I meant to say I use the ankiweb on my iPad I don’t have the app on the iPad
the deck is called semio respirator if it helps
Thank You for reaching out!!
It’s important that you read the messages on the screen, especially when you’re setting up syncing for the first time, or you’ve made certain other changes that require a one-way sync. That’s how you’ll avoid this issue in the future.
The most recent server-side backup of your account was made on 29 December at <click for local time>. Yes, it has a deck called “Semio respirator” with over 200 cards. Please confirm if you want me to restore that version of your collection to your account.
Once that is restored, you’ll need to preserve your local PC collection so you can set up syncing, download your AnkiWeb collection, and merge the 2 separate collections after that. See: Syncing with AnkiWeb - Anki Manual .
Yes please restore that version
Okay, that’s restored. On your next sync, you’ll need to download from AnkiWeb – so follow the directions at the link to preserve your local collection.
It is really great that you are able to helps users restore collections. Do you think it might be feasible or worthwhile to build a user-accessible version history tool so that users can restore server backups themselves?
I don’t think that would be worth the effort. Server-side backups are infrequent, so satisfactory restoration of a collection is pretty rare. Besides, most wrong-way syncs are avoidable with a bit of care and attention, and there is often no solution for deleted-collection issues (on top of which, an interface wouldn’t help someone whose account is inactive/inaccessible).
Better to encourage folks to be aware of what they are doing, so they don’t find themselves in a data-loss situation.
