I accidentally synced over all my decks…

I wanted to upload a new deck to Ankiweb and I didn’t download first since I have limited space. But it turns out just pressing “upload” gets rid of everything that’s already there… I read you need to post here to ask to get your decks back and I’ve only been using web for a few years now, so help please… Sorry for any inconvenience!

I want to make sure I understand your situation. Is this the first time you’ve synced this device with your AnkiWeb account? Is this the first time you’ve synced any device?

I don’t think so, but it’s been a good year or so since I’ve done any syncing. It would have been on a different device before. I review my cards on AnkiWeb, but downloaded the application to add a new deck and well…

Ah, well, it sounds like you don’t have a device you can recover from then.

Server-side backups are made much less frequently than local backups (which happen automatically when you have an app installed on your device).

I’m looking at the AnkiWeb account connected to the email address you used to post here. The most recent server-side backup of your account was made on 1 September, so it wouldn’t have captured any changes you made to your collection more recently than that. Please confirm if you want me to restore that to your account.

You can’t add a new deck to your collection through a first-time sync. After you have your restored collection synced, you can import the new deck – Syncing with AnkiWeb - Anki Manual .

Aaaa thank would be perfect! Please do restore the September 1st backup of my account. Thank you so much! I appreciate the help so much.

I’ve restored that to your account. On your next sync, you need to select download from AnkiWeb, and it will overwrite the local collection you have – so be sure to preserve anything you have locally first.

Once you have your device synced with AnkiWeb, you’ll be able to import that new deck.
