(English is not my first language)
I started to make more decks this week and studied them only on AnkiWeb but today I wanted to try it on Ankidroid and I don’t know why but the syncing went wrong and instead I lost all my recent decks (I still have all my ancient ones and I never had any problem with syncing before). I tried to use the backups but the one who was the closest to my complete deck was two days ago and now I only have half of my deck. Is there any way to recover those files or are they lost forever ?
(put here)
It sounds like you had 2 separate collections – one on your Android device and one in your AnkiWeb account. Is that right? Can you tell me which one overwrote the other one (or which one was overwritten)? That will control what your options are for restoring.
My AnkiWeb account was overwritten. I don’t really know if it’s 2 separate collections because my oldest decks (they weren’t deleted) are both on my Ankiweb account and my Android device.
If you used to have them in sync, but they weren’t in sync when you started making changes on AnkiWeb, they sort of diverged into 2 collection. When AnkiDroid required a one-way sync (because of un-mergeable changes), if you chose to upload to AnkiWeb, your options to recover are limited.
AnkiWeb makes server-side backups, but much less often than your local device does. The most recent one was made a few days ago – click link for timestamp in your time zone. If you want me to restore that version of your collection in your AnkiWeb account, 2 things need to happen first –
- Your next sync after the restore will be a one-way sync, and you will need to choose download from AnkiWeb. So before we proceed, you need to preserve your local collection on AnkiDroid – Syncing with AnkiWeb - Anki Manual .
- Confirm for me that you have preserved your local collection and you want me to go ahead.
Thank you for your help but honestly I think that I’ll simply create my missing cards again. I only lost 2-3 days with the backup on Ankidroid so it’s not that bad.
