Pictures appearing as a small document icon but appear perfectly on Ankiweb

About 2 days ago- Anki said there was some trouble shooting and didn’t let me use my add-ons- so I took them off, and then deleted and re-installed Anki- this fixed it but since then none of the previous images on cards are showing. An icon of a slashed document appears instead. I’ve tried all of the steps advised, and I looked up similar questions on the forum- but can’t seem to understand what to do.
The images do appear on ankiweb interestingly. I’ve synced many times- re-installed anki- restarted my pc.
These cards were either made by me or imported decks of a friend.
If anyone could help me? Thank you so much!

If you uninstall one of the mobile apps, it deletes all of you data and you need to re-download all of the media from AnkiWeb. But that shouldn’t be an issue on desktop, because your collection is stored separately from the app.

Start first with – Tools > Check Database . Then you can run Tools > Check Media and start looking at whether the images from those notes are showing up as missing or unused in that report. [DO NOT use the Delete Unused Media functionality until you work this out.] Run Check Media on your mobile device as well, and see if you get the same result.

Thank you for your reply. I have done this- it still doesnt show on my PC, but it does show on my iphone. When i checked media it put:
Missing files: ⁨9761⁩
Unused files: ⁨846⁩
Extracted images: ⁨1⁩
Any idea T-T

Was this Check Media on your phone or on your PC? Or did you get the same result on both devices?

Hi, sorry I sweat I had written a reply. But this was on my PC. On my phone it shows: Missing: 190 Unused: 1651 .

If your PC has

Missing files: ⁨9761⁩
Unused files: ⁨846⁩

– and your phone has

Missing: 190
Unused: 1651

– I’m sure you can see that those devices aren’t in sync yet!

The first step is to keep syncing until those numbers match, or at least until they stop moving closer together – Media files may take time to sync - Anki FAQs . You have almost 2GB of media on AnkiWeb, and you might have even more on your devices. So give that some time. Then you’ll have a better sense of what the problem be.

Im honestly not sure what to do. It hasnt changed after days of syncing- i’ve forced a sync and no change. :(((((((

Forcing a one-way sync has no effect on media, so you can stop doing that.

Your assignment was:

– so how is that going? Are they still changing with each sync? How do they compare between your devices?

Hi. Its be days- syncing many times everyday. It hasnt chaged. They are not changing between syncs.

A couple weeks ago, things were at:

So –

  1. What are both of them at now?
  2. Does everything else in your collection appear to be syncing successfully?
  3. Do you have sound/image syncing enabled? Please don’t just assume it is – go check, on both devices, in Preferences > Syncing.
  4. Are you getting any errors when you sync?
