I have been using Anki for years now, carefree and successfully. Never needed help on the forum, so this is my first post. I did a little search for my subject, but I didn’t know the terminology for some things, and found nothing.
I entered about 40 new cards last night, and didn’t have time to start learning. This morning I was surprised in that they were not there for me to start. I am fairly sure I did not change any settings. I have checked that they are in the correct deck and I checked the due dates.
Then I sorted by order of due date. The entries were there but the date column had them all down in different format, for instance 305432, not the usual format dd/mm/yyyy (see pic).
Can anyone shed any light on how this happened or a way to change their format collectively?
That’s not exactly the due date column. That column is showing you the due date, yes but also the due number. Those are new cards you have never reviewed, so of course they don’t have a due date.

Did you check the subdecks’ options? Can you post a screenshot of your options?
That numbering is completely normal, and if those are your only New cards, those “New-queue” numbers only matter relative to each other for determining the order the cards will be introduced.
If your newly-created New cards were not introduced, that most likely has to do with your daily limits. You’ll need to consider the limits for the deck the cards are actually in, the parent deck you click to study, and any levels of subdecks in between. Take a look at your daily New limits and your daily Review limits. Deck Options - Anki Manual
Thanks for the replies and information. I have attached a screenshot of my decks options.
What confused me is that last night my new card count in the display (blue) around 37, based presumably on my new card limit as per yesterday. This morning on opening, new cards were displayed as 0, and cards to learn are 300, I expected to see 37 new still displayed.
You have your daily maximum limit set to 300, so if you have 300 cards already queued up that need to be studied today, there’s no room to add New cards. If you’ve been hitting your daily limit of 300 frequently – you’ve probably got a backlog of overdue cards hiding behind that, and you should consider taking care of that first, before introducing anything New.
It’s generally recommended that you leave you daily maximum unlimited (9999) and control your workload by limiting how many New cards you introduce each day. You should generally expect that however many New cards you regularly introduce will result in 8-10x that many daily Reviews (which is what that warning in the middle of your screen is about.
