My anki will not start from the desktop on a windows 10 computer. I cannot find uninstall.exe to remove the app and install Anki 32 as instructed when troubleshooting. Can I just delete the anki.exe file? I was told that leaves all the other accompanying files there. I am not alone about this, saw same complaints in " Python38dll error and unable to uninstall Anki" but I am not a programmer and have not received any python38dll error messages. Did not see a solution that doesn’t involve python.
The post you linked is very old, so I don’t think it’s relevant for you. It talks about the old app location – the default app location is now %LocalAppData%\Programs\Anki\
so you can check that folder for uninstall.exe. If you don’t find that folder – your Anki is installed somewhere else. If you don’t find uninstall.exe
in that folder – yes, you could simply delete that folder.
However, you don’t necessarily need to uninstall at all. I’m not sure what troubleshooting steps you’re following, but start with these – Troubleshooting - Anki Manual . After that, I’d recommend running Anki from a terminal window to see what the possible issue is.
Thank you Danika! I tried everything in the troubleshooting before listing this on the forum. I will try the terminal window approach. Cannot see the anki version if I cannot open it on Desktop but downloaded it beginning of 2025. When I clicked on anki-console.bat a cmd appeared w the following errror message: " DLL load failed while importing pythoncom: The specified module could not be found." Is that the running anki from terminal window?
Yes, your best bet is probably to delete that Anki program folder and start over with a fresh install.
