I’m just starting with Anki and having some difficulties. I’ve read the faq and I think i’ve got everything setup correctly. I re-imported my deck last night and correct amount of cards appeared, but then nothing again today.
One thing that is working correctly is that I have Anki on OSX sync’d with Ankidroid.
My settings are:
Daily Limits
New Cards
Preset: 50
This deck: 50
Today only: 50
Maximum reviews
Preset: 9999
This deck: 9999
Today only: 9999
I have “New Cards ignore review limit” toggled ON.
Limits starts from top is toggled OFF.
I haven’t changed anything else, but I did turn on FSRS.
My deck does have subdecks, but I have these settings “Save to All Subdecks”.
Do you have any New cards that are available to be studied – not suspended, and not buried?
You don’t need to set all 3. “Preset” is the default. You can use “This deck” to set a special limit for certain decks/subdecks assigned to this preset. And “Today only” will set a special limit for certain decks/subdecks that will revert to normal tomorrow. Whichever “tab” you are on when you click “Save” (or
“Save to all subdecks”) is the only one you are actually saving.
Yeah I understand those three things, but surely if all three are set to 50 I should be seeing something? I set them to 50 as I’m already familiar with most of the vocab in this deck and just wanted to get through them as quickly as possible.
At the top of the app I can see “41 cards (0 due)”. I presume the 41 cards are the ones I did yesterday?
Next to the deck itself I can see only “0 0 0” in grey. No matter what I do, nothing changes.
A similar problem happened to me once. When you export your card (including scheduling), all the reviews that were supposed to be due today are shifted to the next day (tomorrow).
Edit: if you did it last night, then this might be a different problem. If you’re already familiar with all the cards and you pressed easy/good on most of them, then maybe Anki just scheduled it to a later date, because you don’t need to review it today? This is assuming the whole deck has only the 41 cards and nothing else.
It’s the number of cards you have in your collection.
Did you check if you have available new cards to study? In the browse screen, search is:new -is:suspended -is:buried. Do you see any cards?
And when exactly you did it? A new day in Anki starts at 4 in the morning by default. If you did the new cards after that, you’ve already done today’s cards.
The default can be changed in Preferences using next day starts at. What is that set to?
I don’t think that’s true. Exporting shouldn’t change any due dates. Cards that are due today remain “Due” until they are studied – the next day they are overdue.
If you have 41 cards and you introduced them yesterday, then there are no New cards left to be introduced today. None of them are necessarily due as Review cards today either.
As I asked above:
Do you have any New cards that are available to be studied – not suspended, and not buried?
Not sure why it happened, but I exported the deck from my phone to transfer it to my laptop (this was about 1 month ago). I had ~200 reviews due for the day, so I was confused when my laptop said 0 reviews due after I imported it. For a moment, I even thought my cards got deleted, until I checked that the number was the same. Only difference being, the following day had a much larger number of reviews.
Edit: just realized my region on my laptop is set to Japan (I was trying to access some region-specific novels). That must be why.
Yes, if your devices think it’s a different day, they are likely to show you different information
You’ll generally be better off using AnkiWeb syncing for that – but your devices will have to be set to the same date, time, time zone, etc. for that as well.
The deck was incomplete and only had 41 cards. Boy do I feel silly. I spent so long going through the faq and trying to work out why I wasn’t getting any new cards coming, and yet it was so obvious!
Thanks for your help everyone. I really appreciate it.
