This is already fixed. Try updating.
Thanks for the reply
I have Version â¨25.09.2 (3890e12c) installed on my PC and the current version of the app from Google play store.
What else do I need to do?
Iâm pretty sure the bug was fixed in 2.23.2. If you donât have that version yet, you can either wait or download a parallel apk from Releases ¡ ankidroid/Anki-Android ¡ GitHub.
OK, thanks
First, thanks to everyone who contributes to Ankidroid updates!
About the new study screen: on the old version, the toolbar could be temporarily shown, by swiping gently from the top/side of the screen, was this intentionally removed?
Personally I often study with the phone in landscape, so vertical screen space is âvaluableâ. By the way, Iâm grateful that the show answer-button is slightly smaller, but still, there is about 2 lines less vertical space.
Old (hidden toolbar can be accessed):
New (permanent toolbar takes up space):
Just like the old study screen, MathJax looks ugly for some expressions in the new study screen. Looks fine in Anki Desktop.
<anki-mathjax block="true">\sqrt{\frac{p(1-p)}{n}}</anki-mathjax>
Anki:
AnkiDroid:
Look at the square-root symbol.
AnkiDroid 2.24.0alpha3 with new study screen enabled
Looks OK to me (ignoring the disconnected radical symbol which, if I remember correctly, is how itâs usually rendered in MathJax). V 2.23.0beta5.
Well, the radical symbol is looking good in your screenshot, but not in mine. And I am on the latest version with the new study screen enabled.
Ankidroid 2.23.3
The âToggle Whiteboardâ in the toolbar doesnât get âgreyed outâ when activated.
I donât know if itâs a problem on my device.
One should be able to view the state of the toggle at a glance.
Thanks for the work done ![]()
________
EDIT ::
One should be able to disable the whiteboard toolbar.
I see that it can serve as an âactivationâ signal but I never use this toolbar.
So I put it in the bottom and never look that way.
A little part of screen real estate lost.
________
EDIT 2 ::
The âdouble tap time intervalâ doesnât work with the new screen study on my device.
Works with legacy screen study.
Something minor: The setting âNew study screen > Screen > Hide system barsâ has radio buttons labeled âNoneâ, âStatus barâ, âNavigation barâ, and âAllâ. This wording is a little confusing, since âHiding system barsâ might just be the topic. I think repeating the verb in each option would make it clearer, ie âDonât hideâ, âHide status barâ, âHide navigation barâ, "and âHide bothâ.
It would be nice to keep the little temporary feedback of the previous answer that allowed to double check that we answered as intended.

From New study screen [Official thread].
You can find details about Ankiâs TTS here.
My only criticism is that the new answer feedback is way too short even on the newest 2.24.0alpha4 build. I like the security of knowing that I didnât press the wrong button and thatâs especially important now that Iâve switched to gestures where it does sometimes register as the wrong one.
Please allow to vertically center the display of cardsâ questions/answers in New study screen, just like the current one supports it.
New study screen (no center option):
Option for current study screen (it disappears if New study screen is activated):
Current study screen with âcenteredâ activated:
It is found that the screen is always on after using the new learning screen, I suggest that the screen of the new version of AnkiDroid is always on. Thanks.
I registered here just to give feedback about this indicator. New indicator positions are not ergonomic, because there is no reason to look at the bottom of the screen, all meaningful content is alligned to the top of the screen. When I answer, sometimes very rapidly, it is simply not practical to move eyes to bottom to press aswer buttons, their positions and meanings are well known, so the only logical usage is pressing them blindly and only then optionally react to the feedback image on the top to ensure click was performed as intended.
Feedback on the bottom maybe practical only for the beginners for a few days. Then I belive they will adapt to blind clicking and lose feedback completly because it is at the place where itâs inconviniet to look at.
So I would prefer to have option to have feedback as it was. I think even graphically it was more convinient, because now it is harder to distinguish hard from normal, because both are just a single tick symbol, but with different non contrast color (pale green and pale orage in dark mode at least).
Version 2.23.3. 10th jan 2026 (anki 25.09.2 / 3890e12c)
The answer feedback has been moved to the upper corner. Available in the latest alpha.
It absolutely is ergonomic if your phone is resting on a surface. In many cases, the top of the phone is easier to reach if the phone is laying down in front of you on the desk while youâre doing something else.
For example, I often sit at the PC desk with a gamepad/controller in my hand, fully resting on the table from the elbows up. Right underneath the controller (in the space between my arms) is my phone, with Anki open. Whenever I grab a chance to look away from the game, I look at the phone. Every now and then, I get to tap an answer. This is doable only if the buttons are at the top. This was the most common way I use AnkiDroid over Anki Desktop, apart from simply being away from the PC.
Swiping around the touchscreen when you only briefly lift your thumb off something else is way less comfortable than simply tapping a button in the area thatâs easy to reach. Plus, Iâd have to remember what the swipes mean⌠maybe to create a deck for it?
You can add tap gestures, including double tap. That replaces the 4 buttons and is arguably easier since the touch area is bigger. Remembering them is not a problem at all, I donât understand why youâd say thatâŚ
