Yesterday I logged into my old account, updated the e-mail & password & added a bunch of cards to an old deck. The deck was created before audio-only was possible, so I can’t set audio as the default. Instead I have to start with the text interface to do audio. So I wanted to move my new audio cards to a newer deck that had audio set as the default, but I couldn’t figure out how to do it on the phone. So I thought I’d try on the computer, but it’s not recognizing the old or new log-in info & the app won’t let me change again!

I am not sure I recognise that, could you clarify? Make sure you’re using Anki and not a different app with the same name.
You’ll find links to all of the Anki apps on the main site.
In case that other link doesn’t work for you either: https://apps.ankiweb.net/ .
Ah, I forgot to use https://
in the link
Oh, wow, it really is a diff app! But it says the one yall linked isn’t free. I didn’t realize you hafta pay. I know others who made decks that I can find by searching on the app I have, so does that mean we all got the wrong app or do the same decks show on both?
I think they rip off the decks from here and upload it there. I’ve searched for community decks there (and I’m pretty sure the authors only shared in AnkiWeb) and it was uploaded there by a different person with a different name. It’s really shady.
About Anki, yes the official iOS app isn’t free and you have to pay to use it. But it’s a lifetime purchase and there aren’t any ads, no subscriptions and you get access to all the decks, add-ons, and a free sync service (and the awesome community too).
The rest of the ecosystem however is free of cost so if you can’t pay, you can still use AnkiWeb on your phone (or AnkiDroid if you have an Android device) and Anki on computer.
As you can’t use sync to get your “AnkiApp” decks imported to any of the Anki clients, check out this add-on. It has the instructions for how to do it.
Thanks, but now I think I should finish the deck in the current app, so I can record the audio on my iphone or is there data lost if I do it that way?
I think you can’t import study progress so moving to official Anki would be a better choice right now, if that’s what you plan to do.
I don’t understand the audio issue though as I never really used AnkiApp so I can’t tell you about that.
If you can say more about what that functionality is – it might be possible to use AnkiMobile to do that.
I’m sure it is, but then I’d have to pay for the mobile app. If I record using the knock-off app & then transfer the deck to OG Anki, I can use it on the computer for free
If you can transfer the cards/notes – you probably still won’t be able to transfer the review history. If you want help using any of the apps – including desktop Anki – this is the place you can ask for that. But we can’t help you if you don’t tell us what you’re trying to do.
Possibly what you want to do with AnkiApp can be done in desktop too?
I can’t record audio cuz I don’t have an external mic, just my phone
