Is this supposed to not be allowed? In the preview it works fine, but Anki won’t let me add the note because of the error message
Edit: I used the wrong screenshot for my template text. it had {{c2::as}} instead of {{c1::as}} But the point is the same. Using the correct numbers it does work in the preview

Having multiple cloze replacements on a note does seem to be supported, see Card Generation - Anki Manual.
Aside from that: Does your edit mean that your issue is resolved (or how do you know that it works in the preview)?
Edit: Ah, I think I get it now. You still cannot add to it but can see the preview via edit card template screen.
It’s just confusing because the error message is warning me that I can’t use cloze deletions in a field that don’t have a cloze filter. But in template Translation does have a cloze filter
And like I said it does seem to work fine the preview
I just tried it in a new anki profile. It works fine for me:
Are you sure you used a cloze card and didn’t modify something else, e.g. a basic card? Also see last paragraph of the Cloze Deletion topic in the manual: Adding/Editing - Anki Manual
I noticed that your Notetype is “Cloze” is that the orginal template that you modified? What I did is was
- clicked the note type at the top left
- clicked manage
- clicked add
- the selected “Add: Cloze”. I also tried “Clone: Cloze” that also didn’t work
- and modified my card template
- then I put my data into in my fields
- then the error message shows like I’m trying to use clozes in a template that doesn’t have clozes
Reading through the manual to see if I missed anything now. But I do know that I can’t use clozes in a normal card type
Yes.
It does work if I manually create a cloze as well, though. I did it via Tools > Manage Notetypes, then the Add button, then “Add: Cloze”.
If it doesn’t work for you, maybe double check your templates for that note type.
Wait a sec: Did you add that second field to the front template as well? It has to be there, else you’ll see that warning.
(if you don’t want it to be visible, we can fix that easily using basic css)
Yup that’s what it was. thank you! I think I can handle hiding it on my own. I appreciate your help
