Cloze deletion can only be used in fields which use the 'cloze:' filter. This is typically the first field

Getting this message when I try to create cloze cards, I’ve looked through heaps of other people’s comments of the same thing happening, but can’t find anything that is changing mine. Any help would be v appreciated <3

You haven’t given us much to go on, so let’s start with the basics?

  1. Are you using a Cloze note type? – It either needs to be the default Cloze type, or another note type made from that default type. Card Generation - Anki Manual
  2. What do your card templates (front and back) look like? – Posting templates as text in a code-preformatted-text block is best, but if they aren’t too complex, a screenshot will do.
  3. What fields do you have in your note type and what field are you putting the {{c1::cloze markers}} in?

Here are the screenshots of what I receive when I try to make the card. It’s definitely on the Cloze note type, and I have tried to make an alternate Cloze note type by deleting the original and remaking it.

Your problem is that the cloze-filtered field is Text, but you’re putting the cloze “c1” marker in Back Extra. It’s the wrong field, just like the error message said.

It looks like you’re trying to use this Cloze type like a Q&A card/note? As you might imagine, front-back Q&A note type would be better for that! Not everything needs to be a cloze.

If you want to use a cloze type for this, you need to revisualize it as a statement – and maybe even make it multiple cards. Something like –

Text:
{{c3::Eukaryotic}} DNA has {{c2::2 or more::how many?}} {{c1::linear chromosomes}}
[I rarely use cloze notes in my studies, and don’t know much about DNA, so I have no idea if that structure is useful – it’s just to give you an idea.]
