I have logged into my account for the first time after maybe 4-5 months having not logged in. Unfortunately on the PC web version I am unable to view any of my decks - this is completely empty. However using the ankidroid app on my phone all my decks are there and it is suggesting to sync/backup the data - i am worried if i do this it may delete everything to be the same as the web version. Please if anyone is aware of how to recover these lost decks this would be hugely appreciated (around 2 years of exam revision!). Many thanks
You will be given the choice of whether to keep the version of your collection on AnkiDroid or on AnkiWeb – choose AnkiDroid. Sync will overwrite the empty collection with your complete one.
Sync will automatically choose to overwrite the empty collection with your complete one.
[If you have a lot of media, before you do this upload sync, you should clean up any you’re not using, so you don’t have to waste time uploading that to AnkiWeb again – 3-dots menu > Check > Check Media > Delete Unused Media.]
In the unlikely event that the thing you’re worried about happens instead, you have many, many backups of your collection on your device, and you can restore one of them. To be on the extra safe side, you can export a COLPKG backup of your collection (including media) before you sync.
To clarify, the “web version” is the AnkiWeb site – that just looks directly at your AnkiWeb account. The “PC” version is the full desktop version of Anki, which you would have to install and sync it with your AnkiWeb account. Anki - powerful, intelligent flashcards
