Lost anki cards

Hello, I just became aware that a whole deck of cards is missing. I created this deck several weeks ago and wanted to repeat the cards today. I remember spending a lot of time creating these cards and I am really shocked something like that can happen on this app. I know that I can restore backups, however I do not want to delete all the cards I created after the backup from 3 to 4 weeks ago. Is there any possibility to get my cards back? I am studying for my state exam and desperately need them .. :frowning: Maybe one can create an excel list back up or something like that?

  1. Export your collection (this is a backup of your current progress).
  2. Import the backup that has the lost cards.
  3. Export the lost cards.
  4. Import your collection.

You should think about what might have caused this, like syncing with another device overriding your deck.

First – are you sure they are gone?

  • Where are you looking that you’re not finding them? – For instance, are you searching for the substance of the notes/cards in Browse or just looking at the deck in a study session?
  • Have you run Tools > Check Database to see if they reappear?

If nothing turns up there – given that an unknown amount of time has passed since the cards went missing, your best bet is to –

  • Create a brand new (temporary) profile.
  • Find an automatic backup of your main profile that you think has that deck. Choose the most recent one you think you’ll find them in, and you may want to try a few until you find what you want.
  • Import that into your temporary profile.
  • Export the one missing deck (as APKG).
  • Import that into your main profile.
  • [Clean up by deleting the temporary profile.]
