The learning steps I have saved for this specific deck are 1m 10m. Graduating interval is 1 and easy interval is 4. Before when I would see a brand new card, I would get <1m for again, <6m for hard, <10 for good and 4d for easy. This was all working fine until today. Now when I see a new card, I get <10m for again, 4d for hard, 18d for good and 1.3mo for easy. I’m pretty new to Anki so I’m not sure if I am doing something wrong here but any help would be appreciated! Also, I updated Anki today, restarted it, disabled add ons and restarted my laptop too but nothing works.
The learning steps do not indicate directly how much delay there is between reviews, depending on the user feedback. This is because Anki implements a memorizing scheme called “spaced repetition”, which aims at allowing you to keep memorizing more information without overwhelming you. To do so, Anki will progressively space out the repetitions for a given card (for as long as you keep remembering it). So it’s normal that the delays keep getting longer, it’s actually a good sign! It’s just how Anki works.
Thank you for responding and explaining so well! I didn’t know the learning steps don’t directly impact the delays between reviews. I understand that anki’s algorithm will space out your cards the more you remember them. However, my issue is that now when I see a completely brand new card, I get “<10m for again, 4d for hard, 18d for good and 1.3mo for easy”.
So my situation is not that before I would get “<1m for again, <6m for hard, <10 for good and 4d for easy” and then remember the card, then it would change to “<10m for again, 4d for hard, 18d for good and 1.3mo” for easy. Rather, my situation is that a completely new card would start right at “<10m for again, 4d for hard, 18d for good and 1.3mo for easy”. So if I see a card I have never seen before and think its hard, instead of seeing it in 6 min, I’d see it in 4 days. Whereas, before it didn’t do that with completely new cards.
Is there a way to make it go back to the way it was before?
They impact the delays between the review, they just aren’t the exact delay between each review, as that will also take into account the card’s history.
This is not normal. This seems, instead, like as if you didn’t review for a long time a card you already reviewed in the past, as explained here. To see if this is true, when you are reviewing a card, you can press I to see the date of the first time you reviewed that card.
Yes, you can always reset a card in the browser.
Okay, I will try that out! Thank you so much!
