I’m writing cards to memorize Urdu words and it’s going very well. However, I noticed navigating text (like clicking left and right arrow buttons to move across a typed word) is a little tricky. Let me explain:
It seems that Anki uses left and right arrow buttons for typing order, so pressing the left button in the middle of a word makes the cursor move right and vice versa. So when you place the cursor to the complete left and type a letter, it places the new letter to the complete right of the word and vice versa.
However, if you use a website like rekhta and type some Urdu word like تنہائی, you will notice that the arrow buttons navigate left and right regardless of the reading order.
- Also diacritical marks on characters (e.g. on تَنْہائی) don’t count as a character when pressing the left and buttons.
The evidence I have leads me to think that the latter typing mechanics are a bit more intuitive, but let me know. Thanks!
