Big problem here. Yesterday I unknowingly changed a cloze card type and reset it to default. Anki warned me that this will set all cards that use this note type back to its default. I did not think about it enough and just accepted it. Now, all Image Occlusion cards lost their occluding fields. They still exist in every deck with their custom due date, but Anki just shows the blank image with the message “No cloze 1 found on card. Please either add a cloze deletion, or use the Empty Cards tool.”
When I try to edit these cards, there’s always just a default picture that I am unable to select.
Is there any way to redo the fields in the cards and have my Image Occlusion back? I realized that I could create new cards and modify the due date, but since over 3000 cards are affected, I chose not to.
This didn’t work. I created a test profile and copied my backup file into the test profile. The error message is gone, but there is no picture or answer mask left.
That’s because media isn’t being automatically backed up, see Backups - Anki Manual.
You might still have the media in your actual profile though. Find a collection.media/ folder in your original profile and copy its contents to the profile you just created (learn more here: Managing Files - Anki Manual). After that, check again if the issue persists.
You don’t need to test the restore feature by opening the backup in a separate profile. If you are worried about getting back to where you are now, just make a fresh backup (File > Create Backup) before restoring an older backup.
