I made a custom study for one of my decks, but all of my cards in the deck dissapeared, saying that I needed to run a database check. I did, and it recovered the cards. But now all of those cards are due in the year 1749, and when I try to review them, the good and easy intervals are now 99.7 years! I am aware that I can revert to a back up, but I really can’t afford to lose all of the image files on my cards. This really could not have come at a worse time because I have a really important exam tomorrow, is there anyway I can reverse this nightmare?
Thank you for the help
You can safely restore a backup. You media isn’t bundled in with the COLPKG backup file, but if you restore that into the same profile you’re using now, your media is already there. It’s just in a separate folder in your profile. Managing Files - Anki Manual
Thank you for the reply. Just to clarify, when I activate my backup, will the images automatically be applied onto the cards from that folder?
This might make more sense if you read the link I gave you, so you can find the (default) location of your profile folder and see what is in it. The collection.media
folder isn’t touched when a backup is made or restored.
When you restore a backup, it turns the compressed COLPKG file back into a collection.anki2
database. Just like in your current database, the fields of your notes in that restored database refer to media files stored in your collection.media
folder. As long as you haven’t deleted or moved any of the media files you need, the restored database will still be able to find them right there.
If you want to be the very most cautious, you can make a fresh backup of your own just before you restore [File > Create Backup]. Then if anything goes haywire, you can put yourself back exactly where you are now, and ask for more help.
