How to Deck Override a New Card Type?

Often I want to create a new card type and place all cards of that type in a separate dec.

The problem is that I cannot select deck override until after I create the card type. So I create the card type, all the newly generated cards are placed into the current deck, then I can select deck override for future cards of that type, but I have to go into the browser and manually move all the cards I just created into the desired deck.

Is there another way to do this?

Yes, you can already do this in recent Anki versions.

How? I have version 2.1.66. I did not find an explanation in the online user manual.

When you create a new card type, cards are not generated until you click Save. So you can set up deck override before saving.
