How is my shared deck checked by "copyright holders"?

I just shared one of my decks on Anki web and was shown the following banner:

Startup_Vocabulary_-_AnkiWeb

I was just curious if I could get more insight into what is meant by copyright holders checking the deck. I’ve read the docs and searched the forum and haven’t yet found an answer.

This seems quite similar to the approval process of other app stores such as the Chrome Webstore for Chrome Extensions, etc… but this does beg the question: who is reviewing these shared decks and how?

Also, if this approval process is sensitive and should not be shared publically, then I totally understand. But if the approval process is not sensitive, then I’d be very curious to learn about it!

[Sorry for the delay in responding – I wanted to check on a few details first.]

In order to comply with international copyright laws, AnkiWeb has a system in place for copyright holders to report IP violations – see the AnkiWeb Terms. In certain cases, where the holders have repeatedly had their copyrights violated, they can request to be notified of newly-uploaded decks, based on specific keywords related to their IP.

The 24h-waiting-period gives them a chance to be notified and assert their rights if appropriate. So that’s “who is reviewing these shared decks” – copyright holders who have asked to be notified of decks that potentially contain their copyrighted material. Then they can communicate with support to have the decks removed from the site before they are published.
