I have restored from both automated and manual (.apkg) back ups, but each time a new deck decides to remove itself. sometimes the cards remain, and the scheduling is entirely gone, and other times everything has disappeared.
Even importing a single .apkg somehow leads to another deck being entirely removed. This has happened a few times now. These are entirely unrelated and not sub-decks.
Any ideas on what is causing this corruption? i thought it may be an old e-ink device i’m running Anki-droid on, but it is up to date, and showed no syncing issues over the past year. All devices were up to date before this started happening.
Also tried one way sync, but this didn’t work and now all devices have the same deck missing. The current missing one has around 2000 cards but i’m not too pressed, as i finished it a long time ago. However, the last one to go was a lot more important, so i would like to prevent any further issues if we can.
If this is a Note ID collision, why is a completely random deck disappearing each time?
This is what i get when reverting to a .colpkg backup and checking database:

Debug script shows ID’s look normal (i think, i’m not at all tech literate)
Checking for future/conflicting IDs…
Current Time ID: 1780392499023
Max Note ID in DB: 1780268460141
Max Card ID in DB: 1780268460142
Oh i also opened in safe mode to ensure it wasn’t an issue with one of my add-ons.
There’s no AnkiWeb account associated with the email address you used to post here. Add that email to your account here as a secondary/alternate email, so I can find your account.
The backup system doesn’t make APKG files. Are you actually importing COLPKG files? Exporting - Anki Manual
It looks like Check Database is recovering your missing deck and repairing the database. After you do that, do you still have issues?
Thank you for your response!
I have added the correct email.
Sorry, APKG were the individual decks i had exported. I used COLPKG when reverting back to a backup.
i have found that if i go back far enough with the COLPKG’s, all decks are present. I just want to ensure this wont happen again if i continue on with the same account/decks. I have exported the other decks and could potentially just run a new account or profile with them.
Thanks again!!
If you stop restoring different COLPKGs with damaged/corrupted versions of your database or that are missing decks, run Check Database to repair any damage, and force sync that to AnkiWeb and your other devices – after that, are you still having new issues?
It sounds like your database has been struggling with some issues for a while, but now that you’ve figured that and repaired it – that should have resolved itself and you should be fine going forward with the collection you have.
If you feel more comfortable making a new profile, export/importing your decks as APKGs (with scheduling, presets, and media), re-adjusting all of your other preferences, setting that new profile up to sync with AnkiWeb, and losing any historical data you have (from previously deleted notes/cards/decks) – yes, that’s another option. But that seems like a lot of work if the issue is resolved.
I moved over to another profile, ran database checks, forced one way syc to anki web and ensured all decks were there but now i 2 decks have dissapeared.
- Did you sync to the same AnkiWeb account as before, for the alternate email address you gave me?
- What are the names (or even just partial names) of the missing decks?
- Are you certain they were included in your exports/imports?
- Did you export/import as APKG? One APKG including everything, or separate APKGs for different decks?
- Have you searched in Browse for the note/card content that you think is missing – to make sure the cards aren’t in another deck?
Adding:
Because these details may be important –
- Where exactly are you looking and not finding the deck(s)? The main Decks list? The left sidebar in Browse? Or is it the contents (cards) of the deck that you can’t find, even though the deck itself is still listed? Or something else?
