Hi, not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but when I recently updated my anki to version 24.11, my 8BitDo zero 2 remote will no longer connect with contanki. Before the update, I had been using the remote with contanki with no issues. And I also don’t think its a connection issue between my remote and computer as I was able to set up a key map using Joy2Key as a temporary fix. Is this problem caused by the new version? And if so, when will the addon be updated? Thank you in advance!
Hello, I’m using the Joy-Con (Left) to connect with Anki.
Recently, I set up both the stick directions and directional buttons using your plugin. The directional buttons work perfectly as expected. However, when I use the stick (e.g., moving the stick left, right, up, or down), the behavior is incorrect. Specifically:
- I configured the stick’s left movement to select Easy, but it instead chooses Forget/Again.
It seems that the stick inputs are not correctly mapped or registering the same as the directional buttons.
Below is an image of my current setup:
- The arrow keys are set to Good, Easy, and Hard, and they function as intended.
- The stick movements are set to similar options but don’t trigger correctly.
It’s probably just an issue with your controller configuration. The issue might be that contanki sees a certain button that you are pressing as a different button. You can test this by pressing the button you want on the controller tab and see what button the button you are pressing stimulates (it will show up in a flashing manner
Hello, I am trying to add a new functionality for dragging and dropping terms on drag and drop templates. However, I am trying to include certain python packages however it is not included in the default anki one such as pyautogui and pyotyn. Please can someone help me as to how I can include these packages so that anki recognises it within the addon for my code.
Hi, I purchased a Manba Mini (KM089) controller for Anki. When I first connected it, I was able to map the buttons and set it up how I wanted it. When I finished, I closed Anki. When I reopened it, the Contanki extension says that my controller cannot be detected, even though when I go through decks some of the buttons register, but they aren’t the way I mapped them. Any advice on how to have it detected? I am on a Surface Pro running Windows 10 if that is relevant.
this addon is highly recommended BY OTHERS.
i am considering buying one game controller however i give up.
when i do the anki cards, i have to tag them, move to different folders(depend on difficulty) and so on.
this addon seems fit more to those who already established the use of anki or/and if their setup allows “rating cards only” usage.
for me, i’ll say buy a mini bluetooth keyboard (which looks alike a game controller) or use a andrioid/chromebook with pogo pin keyboard and touch screen. this also makes anki fun to do. more than using PCs.
How could you do a button that “does nothing” like what AnkiMobile does? I’ve been finding it but no option for it.
Could you also add an warning where when you have an unsaved option, it will show up with a pop-up, if possible? The add-on is actually very good
Sorry, my mistakes. The “do nothing” is actually blank, and it would be nice if it’s actually labelled such
I have the 8BitDo Lite 2, and this happened to me, were you able to solve it or anything?
I’m experiencing the same as #1 and I agree that a default profile or a forced “I-don’t-have-any-other-kind-of-controller-but-this-8bdo-one” mode would be huge.
Thank you for all the work you do on this fantastic add-on, it makes Anki infinitely more endurable.
I just got the 8BitDo Zero 2 controller for my anki and added the Add-on. I successfully connected the controller to my computer and my anki does recognize and connect to the remote. However, my keybindings will not save no matter what I try. I want to set them to the “Answer” settings under controls, and then after I “save” none of the keys work as they should. When I go back into the config, it has reset to the default settings. Interestingly, any changes i make to each setting does save, but the overall setting I want always resets to default. I have tried redownloading the addon, but this doesn’t work.
I can tell the remote is connected because the default ‘enter’, ‘undo’ and ‘sync’ all do work, but I cannot change the setting.
Please help. I’ve seen other people have this problem previously but no solution was ever shared.
Thanks
Hi dear contanki users and developer, Im using the 8bitdo micro with contanki and it works really good except of one thing: I almost every time have to click 2 times instead of one time to do an action, for example flip the card or answer the card with “good”, “easy” and so on. Does anyone have the same problem or do you know where this comes from? Can the 8bitdo cause this problem or is it likely some software issue?
Thanks for your help!
Hello, I’d like to buy a new controller and use it for Contanki, do you know whether this one will work with Contanki: Lunriwis Wireless Controller für PS3, Wireless Double Shock 6 Achsen Bluetooth Joystick Gamepad mit kostenlosem Ladekabel für PS3 Controller?
I am having the same problem. When the controller is connected Anki will scroll back up to the top of the screen whenever I scroll down. It will only stay stationary if I hold it at the bottom of the screen. This happens whether I scroll using the controller, keyboard or trackpad. It occurs in the home screen and when reviewing cards, but not in browser view.
I tried changing the controller set up but it still happens - both using D pad arrows as native scroll function and when programmed as buttons mapped to a new command I made (down arrow on keyboard).
Anyone got a solution?

I got a new generic controller from amazon called “VR30.” Looks very similar to the AnkiRemote, and I got it to work using the add-on settings (very helpful may I add). However, for some reason the mouse pointer automatically goes to the top of the screen and every time I try using my mouse, it fights it and I can’t use the mouse at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I found a workaround in case any else has this problem - if I map the L and R shoulder buttons to Scroll up/down smooth, the issue doesn’t happen. I now use the arrow keys for other functions.
FYI, just updated ANKI and the add-on stopped working. Several reports on r/Anki. Btw, using 8Bitdo micro here.
It will probably be helpful to know –
- What version of Anki were you using before?
- What version of Anki did you update to?
- What OS are you using?
- What “stopped working” about it?
What version of Anki were you using before? 25.02
What version of Anki did you update to? 25.02.01
What OS are you using? W11
What “stopped working” about it? Add-on dont recognize de 8Bitdo Micro
If you can’t wait for a fix for the add-on –
- File > Switch Profile > Downgrade & Quit
- Reinstall 25.02
