Contanki & 8BitDo

My 8BitDo connects to my computer however, when I log into my anki desktop platform the 8BitDo connects and then forces the cursor to the top of the screen and renders it inoperable either via the joystick, trackpad, or wireless mouse.

I cannot switch the connected controller to one of my preexisting controller profiles to even operate the controller. Is this a contanki problem or something I did wrong?

I’m not all that familiar with using controllers, but I feel like when this question is asked, 90% of the time the answer is either – Change the switch on the side of the controller back to the other mode – or Restart.

Have you tried those?

I have basically removed all of the software both Anki side and controller side and restarted everything. Still no luck. I believe this is an 8BitDo issue because I was able to connect a switch joycon to my Anki desktop fine. Based on my research I think 8BitDo has a spotty record of its software playing nicely with Anki. I appreciate the help!

Tbh I use multiple 8bitdo controllers and I’ve essentially never had a problem. I do, however, somewhat frequently see folks who have issues with Contanki, FWIW. Not sure of the providence there, though it’s just observational.

My recommendation is that, if you’re on Mac, you use JoyKeyMapper as button-mapping software. I’m a bit of a glutton for remotes and it’s always worked flawlessly for me, for years now.

All good points. I had a seamless experience until recently. I’m on a windows based Lenovo; I did get carried away one day and try to download some 8bitdo windows software that could be used in the xbox app on my computer. After that is when I basically had zero functionality with Contanki. I deleted all of the corresponded software (8bitdo ultimate software for windows) from those downloads. After that is when I began experiencing virtually zero compatibility with Contanki. I then took the time to delete all software add ons and downloads from both ends of the problem (8bitdo & Contanki) and tried to redownload and reconnect the controller to Anki. No joy. I’m not technically savvy but I feel I’ve done virtually all the normal steps one might take to solve this. Sorry for the length. And thank you for your time and help.

I do recall seeing someone recommend a Windows-based version of similar software, though I can’t immediately recall the name. You might try searching on Reddit

It was, predictably, something like ‘Controller’ or something inanely obvious. It’s been too long and my memory is too poor, but such things do exist

‘JoyKey’ or ‘Joy2Key’, something like that?

My solution was to factory reset my laptop and then reconnect everything. Pretty dramatic but it worked. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
