Contanki & 8Bitdo: slowly scrolls upward

Hello,

I’ve been using the 8Bitdo for a while. It’s always a little quirky. Usually I can find some solution. It also randomly disappears from my bluetooth list (or rather won’t connect), and I have to remove it and re-add it. It’s still fine. Lately though, the page just keeps scrolling slowly up. I have tried countless settings & adjustments, looked on reddit, & tried everything on here: https://www.theanking.com/controller.

It won’t stop. I can’t figure it out. Has anyone else out faced this? hopefully solved it?

You didn’t say which 8BitDo controller model, controller settings, and computer/phone you are using.

However, it sounds as if your controller might be experiencing an issue where a button is pressing down by itself intermittently. You may want to try unbinding whatever button is mapped to “Scroll Up” functionality and see whether the problem behavior stops.

Sorry about that. It’s the 8bitdo zero2. That small one on Amazon for like $18

Oh and I did actually try all kinds of combinations and changes on how the buttons are mapped prior to posting. It persists.

  • What computer or phone are you running Anki and seeing the problem on?
  • What mode is your 8BitDo Zero 2 set to? (switch, windows/x-input, android, mac, or keyboard?)
  • What button(s) are mapped to “Scroll Up” in Contanki?
  • What is your your 8BitDo Zero 2’s Dpad set to? (left analog stick, right analog stick, or Dpad?)
  • What version of firmware is your 8BitDo Zero 2 running?
  • If it isn’t running the latest firmware v1.08, does upgrading firmware to v1.08 fix the issue?
  • When the problem occurs, what happens if you press the button mapped to “Scroll Down”?

Windows

I tried it as a keyboard, in x mode, and then that link has me do x mode & then after it was at up, a D input step. That was the last thing I tried. I followed those directions to the letter (very well laid out. It just didn’t fix it)

To me, that sounds like a faulty button.

But I’m interested to know the answers to several of those questions that BenJamesBen already asked. You should try those things and answer the rest of those questions.

I thought I did answer all his questions. But I can go one by one to make it clearer:

  • What computer or phone are you running Anki and seeing the problem on?
    Windows based computer

  • What mode is your 8BitDo Zero 2 set to? (switch, windows/x-input, android, mac, or keyboard?)
I tried several: keyboard mode, x mode, and then the way the link has it with x mode & then a D input step.

  • What button(s) are mapped to “Scroll Up” in Contanki?
Changed them several times, with no impact.

  • What is your your 8BitDo Zero 2’s Dpad set to? (left analog stick, right analog stick, or Dpad?)
The link had me set it up to left analog stick (as above)

  • What version of firmware is your 8BitDo Zero 2 running?
That I’m not sure how to tell, but I do update my all of my hardware regularly. I just don’t check which version. How would I check?

  • If it isn’t running the latest firmware v1.08, does upgrading firmware to v1.08 fix the issue?
    As above.

  • When the problem occurs, what happens if you press the button mapped to “Scroll Down”?

It scrolls down via whatever button I mapped that way, but when I let go, it drifts back up.

I thought of that: which is why I changed how I had the buttons mapped with several variations. If it were a button, whichever button, when re-assigned, it would then “cont” do that thing: scroll down, or whatever I had shifted it to.

What if you don’t map anything to Scroll Up?

I tried that too.

I mean, if there’s no solution, then so be it. I saw on reddit some people have faced that, and everyone is scratching their heads. Frankly, since it didn’t do it, and now it does, I highly suspect one of those updates changed something, so if I don’t get a working solution, I’m going to reset it to factory settings. That fixes most quirks in my experience (remote or otherwise).

Your answers are a bit vague and confusing. Instead of saying things like “whichever button” and “that thing”, could you please provide the specific details?

Let’s start over. What specific button do you have “Scroll Up” assigned to right now?

Edit: Added:
(You can find a link to the firmware updater tool, as well as other information about the 8BitDo Zero 2 controller, at: https://support.8bitdo.com/ )

Just to circle back, I completely removed anki, rolled back some updates, reinstalled that and the remote add on. Now it works. Thank you for trying. I’m so busy with school, I do forget sometimes to circle back if I solved a problem, one way or another.

I answered as specifically as I knew how. So when you said vague, I just don’t know which part was vague. I explained everything I did. Sometimes that’s just easier than chasing whatever quirk has inserted itself.
