close deletions lost

I have recently updated my anki and now when i make a cloze deletion card, it won’t work. the card type is set to ‘cloze’ and i used to previously be able to add a cloze deletion to the ‘back extra’ side of my cards. since the update, i can no longer do this and it says i need to set it to a cloze card, which it is. It has also meant that 700 previously made cloze deletion cards don’t show anymore with text on the ‘text’ field when i go to study them

Cloze deletion can only be used on cloze notetypes

I guess the issue here is that you added the cloze filter to a normal note type not derived from the Cloze type. Cloze types are treated specially by Anki and you should only make new cloze types by cloning the existing type. Anki started to be more strict about such issues recently. I don’t think they will work properly with multiple clozes (Try that). You should be able to fix the issue by making a new cloze type cloned from the base Cloze type from the note types screen, then you can cop…

Cloze deletions must be placed in the top “Text” field, not the “Back Extra” field. If you have added a bunch of cards in the reverse order, you can use the Change Notetype action in the browse screen to switch the order of the fields.
