Can't sync my media to ankiweb

Hi all,

My ankiweb deck is has images that don’t display, so I’m trying to upload/sync my computer’s anki deck (which does have functioning images).

However, when I try to sync, I get this error:
Failed to read ‘/Users/alexsun/Library/Application Support/Anki2/User 1/collection.media/paste-5473407537774593.jpg’: Input/output error (os error 5)

Any idea how to fix? I can’t seem to upload my decks to ankiweb

That looks like a problem with your computer. I suggest you use macOS’s Disk Utility to check your drive for errors.

Thanks Dae. I ran the disk utility First Aid and it seems there were no issues. Still getting this same error. Any other ideas?

See Anki’s manual (18. Managing Files) about details. I would use Check Media and Check Database first, and then try to manually find and open the file in question to check if it is fine. If not, I’d delete it, perhaps also search for the card that contains it, and try again until it works. This should get you closer to a solution. But yes, this is a weird issue and I don’t have a clue right now what might be causing it for you.

  • Have you run Check Database on your computer to make sure all of the media you’re trying to sync is actually used in your collection? It would be a shame to spend time trying to fix sync for a file that you don’t even need!
  • Have you tried logging out of Sync – Preferences > Syncing – and then clicking Sync to log in again?

Thank you all–checking media and deleting unused ones has fixed the issue
