Cannot login in Anki Windows app (wrong email or password) but AnkiWeb can login

I am having trouble logging in to my account on the windows app. I am able to sign into my account on AnkiWeb, so I know I have the right credentials (and I copy paste these when I try to sign in on the app), but when I go to sign in on the app after clicking sync, I get the message that my email or password is wrong.

I have tried temporarily changing my password to a short and uncomplicated one so I know that I am entering it correctly, as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and even saving the flashcards to my device and creating a new account to try to log in and transfer the flashcards to this account, but it does not allow me to log in to the new account either.

The furthest I have got to is that it loads saying it is syncing, but straightaway then comes up with the same message of wrong credentials. I can use Ankiweb without using the app, but there are features only on the app that I would like to use. I have seen other posts about this issue, but there are responses saying it is fixed after taking one of the steps above, so I am stuck.

Thanks

I can see the AnkiWeb account associated with the email address you used to post here. That account looks fine on our end. I can see that you’ve synced both Windows and Android installs to it – is this issue only happening on Windows?

When did it start happening? Or perhaps a better question is – what prompted you to need to re-enter your credentials for syncing, and was it working before that?

I first went to sync the account on the windows app yesterday, then it prompted me to login. When I was making the flashcards, I believed it was logged in the whole time but only realised it wasn’t the case when I clicked sync. Therefore I assume the flashcards were saved locally, but I exported the collection and saved it as a separate file just in case, which is when I then uninstalled the app and tried again. I believe it synced a while back when I first started making the collection (as when I logged in on a Ankidroid, it had some of them saved but not ones I have made more recently), so I must have logged out somehow since then.

That’s normal – but if you had a problem with your credentials, it would have told you right away.

The desktop app doesn’t really have a notion of being “logged in.” The only thing you can log into is AnkiWeb, for purposes of syncing, and that is only checked when you’re syncing.

So if you logged in and did an initial one-way sync when you started Anki, you’d still be logged in when you clicked sync later.

Are you confusing Anki with another app? Or confusing AnkiWeb with AnkiHub?

Apologies for using the wrong terminology and thanks for clearing that up.

It is definitely the Anki app that I am trying to sync with my Ankiweb account (I downloaded the app from the Anki website directly so I know it is genuine). Is it possible that I could have logged out of the Ankiweb account manually on the app which would have stopped it syncing automatically and stopped the ability for me to sync it manually? Either way, I am now still unable to login to my ankiweb account on the app despite using the right credentials.

Yes, in the preferences: Preferences - Anki Manual.

Okay thank you.

As an update to my previous response, I have successfully managed to login to my ankiweb account on the Anki app on a different computer (borrowed to test this), but still having no luck with my computer.
