Can`t export Decks ("Large file option has not been set"

Dear Colleagues,

I tried to export my Anki-Deck (colpkg) to secure it on a hard drive.
After approx. 5 minutes, however, a window appears with “large file option has not been set”, after which the download does not continue. I also can’t find a file in the storage location. Can anyone tell me how to proceed here?
Many thanks in advance!

I can’t find that error string in Anki. Are you sure it’s coming from Anki and not your OS/file system?

How big is your collection?

Have you tried –

  • Checking the “support older versions” box in the export window?

  • Cleaning up your collection.media (if the size of the media could be the issue)? – Tools > Check Media > delete unused media

  • Cleaning up your database? – Tools > Check Database

  • Exporting the COLPKG without media, and archiving your media directory separately? [If you want to do that, you can actually just make a copy of your most recent automatic backup, because that’s exactly what that is. You can find your backups in your Anki2 data folder.]

  • Exporting your collection as separate APKG decks?

Searching for that error message on the internet, it seems that the error might also be related to databases or writing files.

Would probably be very helpful if you’d run anki in a terminal and provide the full output when the error occurs in this chat here (in addition to answering the questions Danika_Dakika asked above).

Thank you! I tried the first options but they didnt work out. The only thing possible was to export my collection as separate APKG decks. I chose the option to export “all decks” and secured it on my hard drive (ca. 18.000 kb for approximately 8000 cards with a few photos). Do you know if thats “the right way”?

And yes, the error string is coming from anki!

Did you confirm this happens with the latest Anki version? If you export the colpkg without media included, does the error disappear? My guess is you have a giant file in your media folder, which should be mentioned in the Check Media report.
