Basic Anki cards showing back of card and front together instead of seperately

Good day, I’ve been noticing on both anki PC and Ankidroid that the back of the card also shows at the front of the card. ex.[ Front: What is the mitochondria? Is the powerhouse of the cell] Instead of Front: ‘‘‘‘ Back:””. This only happens for cards that are basic type in answer. This has been going on for 2 months and the reason I haven’t raised an issue was because I was confused on how to use the forums. Yes I have tried trouble shooting and the other ways you and other anki users have provided to fix it and it hasn’t worked hopefully you’ll fix it in time for my exams cause I’ve tried using other apps but it isn’t as good as Anki. I trust you guys will resolve the issue in a speedy manner

Go to the note editor and click on “Cards…”. There is an option in the top right corner menu to reset the note type to its default state.

Note that this will delete any extra fields or card types you have added (these terms are explained in the manual).

Okay I did that the front and back are no longer showing together but now the basic type in answer card wont allow me to type in the answer it just shows me like a basic front back card. Thank you for your previous suggestion btw :slightly_smiling_face:

Oops, it may be due to this bug.

No big deal, though, we can fix it. First make a backup.

Now go back to the note editor and click on fields. If there’s an extra field “Add Reverse” and you didn’t have that before, you can delete it. Next go back to the template editor (click on “Cards…”) and select the second card type from the drop down at the top. Delete it from the top right corner menu.

Next, we need to manually edit the front and back templates to make them look like the default type-in answer templates. They should look exactly like this:

Front:

{{Front}}

{{type:Back}}

Back:

{{Front}}

<hr id=answer>

{{type:Back}}

Finally, make sure that everything is working fine before deleting the backup.

Or you can just create a new copy of the original “Basic (type in the answer)” note type [Manage Note Types > Add > "Add: Basic (type in the answer)"] and change your notes to use that [Notes > Change Note Type].
