Massive fan and used it for learning Thai for years.
A recent update seems to be causing problems with Basic (and reversed cards) when viewing the card browser.
I did try to search for similar issues but could bot find any, ao thought to put here as I’ve invested so much time into my decks and like the Anki format.

You can see that these cards should have Thai word question, with an English word answer.
For example Shine and Plant Stalk.
The cards themselves are intact but when viewing the card browser you can see that some cards show English and Thai (older cards) and some just show the English word twice. This makes managing the correct cards to correct decks difficult.
I am assuming that this was not an intentional change…
I do not understand code but if this can get back to someone on the team that does, that would be great.
Which field is taken to display “Sort field” will depend on the note type setting.
What will be in the Answer will depend on which fields are included in the Back Template.
I don’t see any mistakes.
Try to choose something else instead of Sort field.
I note that you are inconsistent in creating your notes. In one case, you write the English word in Front and in the other in Back.
Hi. Thanks I tried that and it rearranges them. That is a relief.
What does ‘sort field’ mean if there is only the one option of ‘question’. If this isn’t selected, how is it been arranged? DATE of creation? I have translation both ways but I didn’t arrange them differently, the ‘sort field’ did thta, which is what caused the concern.
Also I seemed to have card that were English for both question and answer but not when you looked at the cars, only in the browser. See “sky/blue” example
“Sort field” isn’t Question or Answer, it’s the field of your note type that you have selected to be the sortable field – Adding/Editing - Anki Manual . There are lots of other things that you can sort by, but that’s the only one that is a field.
I’m sure what Keks was pointing out is that you have Notes where you’ve used the front field for your Thai word, like –
– and notes where you’ve used the front field for your English word, like –
Both of those are the same 2-card-making note type, but for one note the 1st field (which is probably your sort field) will be Thai, and for the other, English.
The other place this hurts you is that Anki only does duplicate checking on the 1st field, so you might have duplicate notes and not know it.
This is the reason folks often rename the fields so they don’t get confused about what goes where. There are ways to fix this, if you want to, but the solution depends on how many notes you have going in each direction, and whether they are New or already being actively studied.
