I’m in the middle of my nursing school semester and my windows 11 surface laptop randomly stopped connecting to wifi. The WiFi can turn on but no networks sound. Microsoft helped me try to fix this but said the only option I’m left with now is to do a factory reset. I really don’t want to lose all my anki flashcards because I need them for finals. How do I not lose my decks once I do the factory reset on my computer , without the use of WiFi??
Managing Files - Anki Manual (ankiweb.net)
On Windows , the latest Anki versions store your Anki files in your appdata folder. You can access it by opening the file manager, and typing
%APPDATA%\Anki2
in the location field. Older versions of Anki stored your Anki files in a folder calledAnki
in yourDocuments
folder.
…
Within the Anki folder, the program-level and profile-level preferences are stored in a file calledprefs.db
. (prefs21.db
here)
…
- Your notes, decks, cards and so on in a file called
collection.anki2
- Your audio and images in a
collection.media
folder
You could just backup %APPDATA%\Anki2
folder.
In addition, if you reset your Windows from setting(System > Recovery > Reset this PC) and select “Keep my files”, you can find your old %APPDATA%
folder lying in Windows.old
(C:\Windows.old\Users\<UserName>\AppData
in specific).
If you’re still worried, you could backup it to external media such as a USB flash drive manually as what mentioned above.
Rather than manually copying files, you may find it easier to File>Export your collection with media and scheduling data, then you have a 1-file .colpkg file that you can copy onto a USB stick or similar.
