AnkiWeb and the PC Anki app don’t allow reviewing with the v2 cheduler anymore.
My AnkiDroid version is 2.16.5 and no updates seem to be available for my device. In this version’s Advanced settings there’s a “Use the new backend” option, which “Enables newer Anki features, such as the v3 scheduler. UNSTABLE. Do not use on a collection you care about. NOT reverted on app close.”, and a “Use the v3 scheduler” option, which is grayed out until the former is enabled.
Is this setting safe to use? Or is there no way for me to keep using AnkiDroid on this device in parallel with AnkiWeb (and the new versions of Anki PC) anymore?
You’re on an old version of AnkiDroid [over a year out of date], if you can upgrade, you should, as the experimental backend is now stable and the default.
Reviewing with the experimental backend will work fine, you’ll experience a few bugs from time to time, but nothing critical.
You can also keep using the v2 scheduler on AnkiDroid. There may be a few things to adjust, but v2 and v3 and fully compatible. The Anki v3 scheduler - Anki FAQs
