Anki installation on Windows laptop failing

Hello, I am a french user and I hope my english will be clear enough to explain my problem. I have been using Ankidroid on my laptop for some month (windows11 with updates) and it was working without trouble. As my computer had to be entirely cleaned and windows re unstalled, I have a brand new windows 11 (Dell laptop)
So I downloaded Anki (I changed the rep in which I put it) and then click on Ankidroid exe file in the rep. It was downloaded and seemed to work and the dialog box indicated it was completed. The short was on my desk so I tried to start but it did not work … An other dialog box indicated : “this app failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could not be iinitialized. Reinstalling the app may fix this problem”. I do not really understand what it means .
I have tried to delete all, then reload and so on … (by the way, I wanted to re download in the default rep thinking it could be the reason but It never indicated an other rep) But nothing worked.
I am kind of desperate…
Can some one help me ?
Thks in advance

I don’t understand how you were using AnkiDroid (the Android app) on a Windows computer in the first place. Were you using an emulator?

Ankidroid is an Android application. How did you run it on your Windows laptop?

Yes, @linux-user, Danika_Dakika asked the same thing. We’ll have to wait for OPs response first.

I do think however that this person is actually talking about Anki (not AnkiDroid) and is just confused, based on these things:

There is no .exe file for android apps. They’d have something like .apk instead.

I’m not knowledgable enough regarding AnkiDroid, but I don’t think they use QT in their build at all (but I might be wrong here).

Hi, I am sorry if I mixed you up with saying Ankidroid. I did not mean Ankidroid, it is just because I am used to call it like this because I have it on my tablet and phone also.
I was talking about Anki for computers for windows 11 which I downloaded on the web site.
So, sorry again.
Anon_0000 was right :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

When you say “rep” – are you talking about a folder/directory? I’m guessing it’s a localization/naming issue, but I want to make sure.

Are you talking about where you downloaded the anki-####-windows-qt6.exe installation exe – or what you selected as the installation folder/directory when you were installing Anki?

I’m trying to figure out if you had an old install in one directory, and you installed the updated version in a different directory. Did you install it in the default file location – %LocalAppData%\Programs\Anki\?

Hi Danika,
Yes, I was talking about folder in which I downloaded Anki. I usually change the folder by default to a one I create when I download software and that’s what I did this time too.
After the download, I opened the folder and clicked on “anki.exe” as I usually do for other softwares. It seemed to be working because at the end, a box indicated that it was completed. A shortcut was set in my desk. So I clicked but it not work as I previously
mentionned in my former message.

Before retry an other time to download and install, I deleted all what was previously done. But the dialog box was still proposing the folder I created.
I did not realize at that time that app data folder was hidden (I had a brand new windows 11 after reformat) . I just made them appear and I see there is a folder “download” in app data. Could it be the right folder for the downloading.
Hope all what I said is clear as my computer vocabulary is not as rich as I would like.
Thks in advance for your help

Great news : as I did not want to remain stupid regarding this installation and considering what was said above about hidden files : I tried a new installation and this time I was proposed the app data folder which I followed and guess what . IT WORKS . Thks anyway for yr help.
