I am not able to enter unicode accents such as é É ç. In the “type in the answer” field in an anki card. I’m on linux and in any other case I can enter these characters using ctr+shift+U+[code]. Is there any way of quickly adding these characters in the answer field of a card?
I’m using anki 23.12.1 (not able to update due to old hardware) and using Debian linux 12 with xfce
Change your keyboard to the appropriate language. If you are using French, then change the keyboard to French; that will make the letters available for your to use, as they would be for any native speaker.
Otherwise, set the Compose Key to something useful (e.g. RIGHT-ALT, which is what I use) that does not get in the way. Then you can just type, e.g. RIGHT-ALT+COMMA, C and you will get C cedilla (Ç). This is the easiest way to produce letters with the common accents.
See this image for where/how to set it, if you are using Linux Mint.
On Linux Mint, to set the Compose Key, open the Keyboard applet, choose Layouts, then Options. Then expand Position of Compose Key. I’d suggest setting it to the right ALT key (RIGHT-ALT).
See the following image for how to tick or set the RIGHT-ALT key as your Compose Key.
