When starting Anki I’m getting this error. I’ve excluded anki from the anti-virus and firewall application (Kaspersky). Still the error appears when I did that.
Can you please let me know which ports and protocols anki uses to communicate with the back end?
I’ve also raised this with Kaspersky but it would be good what changed in anki that causes this issues. Unfortunately I cannot say exactly when this started to happen as I use it infrequently.
Any help is highly appreciated - its such a great application!
Anki needs to be able to make outbound HTTPS connections to sync. It must be able to connect to ankiweb.net, sync.ankiweb.net, sync2.ankiweb.net, and so on. These domains may change over time, and the IP addresses they point to may also change, so we recommend you allow wildcard access to *.ankiweb.net to reduce the chance of the firewall rules needing to be updated in the future. Thank you for your quick reply.
I’ve added all websites to trusted URL section in the Kaspersky settings. Unfortunately this is still blocking the application sync.
Hello, I’ve now gone through Kaspersky Total Security and removed or disabled all components individually and tested Anki sync. No setting worked even when I added the URL(s) to trusted as provided and also when I added Anki application as trusted. I’ve also tried some obvious combinations. Only when I had all disabled then it worked.
As I also contacted Kaspersky on this, they recommended to upgrade to the replacement of “Kaspersky Total Security”, which is “Kaspersky Plus”. Having done so I removed all references to Anki and it worked with no sync issues.
It seems that Kaspersky Total Security has some settings which cannot be configured to make Anki sync work. You have to upgrade to Kaspersky Plus (which is of no further costs, which is ok).
Just adding this for reference and good to know that Anki isn’t the issue.
