A network error occurred. Error details: ⁨error sending request for url (): error trying to connect: tcp connect error: Connection refused (os error 61)⁩

I keep receiving this error when I try and sync my anki:

A network error occurred.

Error details: ⁨error sending request for url (): error trying to connect: tcp connect error: Connection refused (os error 61)⁩

I know in the past that this error is due to an issue on Ankiweb’s end but I dont see anyone else having this problem as of right now. It’s been giving me this error for the past couple of days. tried a few different networks as well.

I haven’t heard anything about connection issue in the past couple days, so you should probably take a look at your setup – antivirus / firewall / VPN / proxy.

https://docs.ankiweb.net/syncing.html#firewalls

Is it erroring immediately, or after a while? If it takes a while, you can also experiment with your network timeout in Tools > Preferences > Syncing.

Im not sure what would be going wrong on my end, I haven’t changed anything on my computer and don’t have any antivirus / firewall / VPN / proxy. TBH I don’t even really know what those are.

it errors immediately when I hit sync

  • What OS is your computer?
  • Have you installed any recent OS updates? Or conversely – do you have a lot of outstanding OS updates?
  • What version of Anki are you using (copy that from Help > About > Copy debug info)?
  • Are you able to connect the computer to a different internet connection – a different service provider/ISP, or on the same service provider, even just wired connection vs. wifi?
  • Where are you located on the globe (please don’t feel like you need to give us personal information, but sometimes internet issues are regional)?
  1. Mac OS Sonoma 14.4 (23E214)
  2. I do have an update to 14.5 that I have not done
  3. Anki Version ⁨2.1.66 (70506aeb)⁩
  4. yea I tried it at school and at my house
  5. Louisiana, USA. Haven’t had trouble with wifi on other websites etc.
  1. Are you using icloud private relay (I might not have the name quite right, but it’s something like that)? That falls under the “VPN” umbrella, and others have reported issues with it. You may need to set it to allow AnkiWeb traffic.
  2. I can’t tell you if that update would help, but it might.
  3. You could also consider updating to a newer version of Anki

is the error resolved for you? I’m having the same error today. It worked perfectly fine last week. I don’t have a firewall/VPN enabled.

Yea it did. I just reset my computer and updated it along with anki.

It works for me after updating to the newest version. Thanks! I was using a similar anki version as you before.
