Anki no longer connecting to Ankiweb and says no internet connection despite internet connection

For the past week, I have opened anki and have gotten the following message:

“A network error occurred. Error details: ⁨error sending request for url ()⁩”.

At first I thought it was my internet connection, but after trying on my personal hotspot and multiple wifi networks the issue persisted. Tried to update Anki through the app to see if it would fix (I am on a desktop macbook) and then got the following message in my Terminal:

"Checking for updates…

Unable to check for Anki versions. Please check your internet connection.

Error: Failed to run (1): /Applications/Anki.app/Contents/MacOS/uv run --no-project --no-config --managed-python --with pip-system-certs,requests[socks] --python 3.13.5 /Applications/Anki.app/Contents/Resources/versions.py: Error fetching versions: HTTPSConnectionPool(host=‘*****’, port=443): Max retries exceeded with url: /pypi/aqt/json (Caused by NewConnectionError(‘<urllib3.connection.HTTPSConnection object at 0x101b792b0>: Failed to establish a new connection: [Errno 65] No route to host’))"

**** it’s not letting me post this because it’s recognizing this section as a link, but in this ’ ’ section it is pypi. o r g Spacing this out so I can actually post lol.

I’m not sure what’s going on or how to fix this, but it is a problem as no matter what I do I cannot get Anki to sync to Ankiweb and I need to use this across other devices. Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks!

Check firewalls, proxy, ect.

Next you should check your device – Error establishing a secure connection when syncing - Anki FAQs . Since you use a Mac, don’t overlook things in your OS like iCloud Private Relay, which is basically a VPN.
