Cannot sync anki with new anki update on mac

Hi everyone,
Really hoping I can get some help here as I have been trying to figure this out all day. I downloaded anki 25.02.1 this morning and when I try to log into my ankiweb account, I get
“A network error occured:
Error details: error sending request for url ()”. I know others have ran into this problem before and I made sure my firewall is off and internet is working, but I am still running into this issue. What else can I do?
Thank you

I also cannot update to the last macOS, I am using sonoma 14.7.5.

That is just a run-of-the-mill connection error – your computer can’t see the AnkiWeb server. Make sure you check everything – Error establishing a secure connection when syncing - Anki FAQs – and then try another internet connection if you can. Since you’re using a Mac, check on iCloud Private Relay too – it’s really a VPN.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately I have tried all those suggestions and am still getting the same error message. Is there anything else I can do?

Hi,
I went to my university tech support today and they also could not figure out the issue after I showed them your comment. Is there any other advice you may have? I apologize for reaching out again and appreciate your help.

  • Try downgrading back to the version that was working.
  • Try connecting the computer to a different internet connection (like a phone hotspot, or different wifi). If it’s the same on different connections, it’s the device, not the connection.
  • Can you reach AnkiWeb directly in a browser – https://ankiweb.net/ ? Even if syncing uses different systems, that should at least eliminate one possible issue.

Thank you for your response! Older versions of anki are no longer working either. Additionally, we tried different connections and none of those worked, which points to the device as you said. I am able to connect to anki web through chrome but not through safari if that helps? Thank you again and please let me know if there are any other steps I might be missing.

Maybe chrome is behind a proxy but safari isn’t (or the other way around)?
Or maybe you have a firewall active, that blocks (or allows) certain apps or maybe ports?

That’s where you want to look for sure. I agree with @Anon_0000 one of those browsers is allowing or blocking something (or being allowed something or being blocked by something) that the other is not. You need to figure out what that is so you can get Anki to the other side of that divide.
