When I click Browse, the app goes unresponsive and closes

For context, I have a MacBook and before this problem, I had several decks including AnKing on there along with around 7 add ons including the Onigiri one. When I tried to unsuspend my decks yesterday, I clicked Browse, the app went unresponsive for several minutes before closing by itself. The only thing I could do was force-quit and reopen it.

I tried the “shift” key open into safe mode and it would still crash when Browse was clicked.

I deleted the app and redownloaded the latest version, the 26. It still crashed.

I checked my database, reset my window sizes, changed my video driver, still crashed in Browse.

I turned off and have now deleted my Add-ons except for AnKing, it still crashed in Browse.

I deleted all of my decks except for AnKing, it still crashed.

I finally deleted all decks including AnKing and the app went back to normal. But when I uploaded a different deck that was more than 100 cards, it went back to crashing.

I restarted my computer, and Browse would work for a few seconds before crashing.

I don’t know if this is an app problem, an add-on problem, a deck problem or a computer problem. I’m sad I probably won’t be able to use AnKing but I just need it to work for my other decks at this point.

Thank you.

(For now, please keep all Add-ons uninstalled/disabled, until the problem has been troubleshooted and resolved.)

  • What is the model of your MacBook?
  • What version of macOS are you running?
  • Could you please confirm, is it version 26.08.1 of Anki that you are now using?
  • Do you happen to know or have an idea about what Anki version you were previously using when the problem started, before you redownloaded/reinstalled Anki during your troubleshooting?

Do you think that the problem might be that there is one specific deck that is causing the crashing? Or, do you think the problem now occurs with any deck?

Could you please confirm, you had been using Anki just fine for a long time and the problem suddenly and randomly started to occur? Or, are you a new user who has been using Anki for just a few days/weeks?

Please try creating a new profile and switching to it…
File > Switch Profile > Add > (create the new profile) > Open
… and start using it. Do you still experience the problem when using the new profile?

Also: run anki from the terminal and paste the crash log here.
