What you’re talking about is adding another card type to your note type so that Anki makes an additional card for each of your notes. It sounds like you’re new to Anki, so take a minute to understand the difference between notes and cards. I’m not sure what “usual way” you’ve found, but that sounds like it’s a matter of adjusting what field replacements show up where on the card templates. Changing the setting to ‘Basic and reversed cards’ seems to not cover all cards, i.e. some I’ll get in one language, some in the other.

If by that you mean changing the note type for those notes – yes, that will probably work, but it only affects the notes/cards you currently have selected.
