Hi,

I recently downloaded anki on my mac and I tried to import the decks shared by upper year level student. The decks were shared in google folder as .apkg

I was able to import other decks like danki and ozanki, but not these one. It keeps saying “Unable to read file. It probably requires a newer version of Anki to import.” I also unselected all the special fields but it didn’t help. I downloaded the version on anki website so I’m pretty sure it’s new and the anki decks were shared to other classmates too and they seemed to be using it well. Not sure what to do. Please help. Thank you.

Try restarting in safe mode so that your add-ons are disabled before importing. Certain add-ons (like “Special Fields”) are known to cause this issue.
